Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Hi if anyone is going and have the time i need a wee favor..need to know who was living at 70 Foley Street in 1892 on Electoral Roll, my Great Great Gran Elizabeth Cook was admitted to Rainhill from this address.
This was not her home address as that was Rosalind Street Kirkdale..i have had great difficulty going backwards with Elizabeth..and cannot locate her as a child..i am hoping whoever resided at 70 Foley Street may have been a clue to her family.
I have checked 1891..1894 and 1901 and cannot make a connection to the various people who lived there..
thank you

Hi Col,
Looking for Elizabeth as a child, who did she marry and when? I did find an Elizabeth living at 68 Rosalind Street in 1891 but I don't think she is the right one. She, as Elizabeth Barrow appears to have married William Bostock Cook in 1880. Then found another one next door at #69, enumerated as a wife but no husband listed. What number was your Elizabeth living at?

Re: Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Hi haaaaaaaaaaaa arrrrrrr bless her shes the one in Rosalind St with little William..the one across the road William Cook was her hubbys brother, did you see nephew John Cook aged 17 living with him..I do believe this little lad is Elizabeth and Archibalds son...their first son William born 1874 died 1876 due to burns he grabbed a candle..I think John was born 1875, and in 1881 hes living with Archibald's mum Diana, so maybe she thourght Elizabeth couldnt cope..when Elizabeth wa sput into Rainhill in June 1892..her 3 children went into the Cottage homes for 1 year..but not John..I lose track of John by 1901..other 3 kids are with dad in Braemar Street..
70 Foley Street is where she was admitted to Rainhill from..so maybe a family member...
Elizabeth Mellor.. married Archibald Cook 1873, Walton Church...I just feel i owe it to her to find about her life..before she got Dementia..her father John Mellor was deceased when she married..

Thanks everyone xx

Re: Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Hi Col,
Thanks for the memory update on the search for Elizabeth Mellor.
She is extremely elusive in 1861. Very few Mellors in Liverpool, mainly in Oldham area, but none born around the right time. I found 2 'Liverpool' birth between 1851 and 1855..
Births Sep 1852: Mellor, Elizabeth - W Derby - 8b - 310
Births Jun 1853: Mellor, Elizabeth Edwards - Liverpool - 8b - 76.
In 1871 I found who I think is the 1852 birth here:
With parents: William [publican] and Elizabeth Mellor.
Address: 80 Beacon Lane [Beacon Light public house), Everton, Liverpool.
RG10 - Piece:3817 - Folio: 8 - Page:14
If Elizabeth is correct about being born in Liverpool, that leaves the 1853 birth as a possible for her? Had a quick look for a Mellor/Edwards marriage link without success.

Re: Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Hiya
This is the prob I have her dad was called John Mellor occupation a Fruit Dealer maybe he had a simple cart..
1881 says she is born in Staffordshire..as her and hubby were lodging, maybe this is wrong who ever told the enumerator..
1891 she says Liverpool, but as we know she wasn't of sound mind..1901 at Rainhill Unkown..and 1911 England, so its difficult..tried looking at whatever directories i could for a John Mellor in Staffs and Lancs but nothing ..
seen as though she married in Walton Church she must have lived in that area..and they settled in Bootle for a while, his mum and dad William & Diana lived at Arlington Street, so Archibald & Elizabeth must have been living together in Bootle before marriage, going by the cert..

Re: Anyone going to Records Office In Near Future
Hi Col,
Personally, I would assume that with the 1881 census being the earliest contact with Elizabeth where she gives a place of origin, she may not have been in such a confused state as became the case over the next 10 to 12 years. So Staffordshire may well be where she was born and Liverpool/Lancashire is based on awareness only of where she was living at the time. And, as you have already probably found there were 9 Elizabeth Mellor births registered in Staffs between 1852 and 1854. Have you tried a post on a Staffs genealogy site for the baptism of an EM with father John?
