Hi Tina
Thanks for the info where can I view the directory?
I have loads of info on William the only missing thing is his place of burial, I will have to visit Liverpool sometime to try to establish that as all the links I have been given have lead to nowhere. He died 7 Dec 1859 at 23 Russell St aged 49

Hi Chris
Many of us bought the Directories covering assorted years. Not available to view online.
I don't know where William would have been buried in 1859, he was born in Yorkshire according to 1851 census.
I'm sure the crew will have some ideas to help.

The child Joseph is from his 1st marriage, he had 6 children with his second wife Sophia Woods and only 2 of them survived one being my Great Grandfather. One of his children he named Albert Isaiah Coffin Chippendale (poor child) he was born and died in 1854. There is an Albert Isaiah Coffin who was a Medical Botanist from the USA so I assume he was involved with him somewhere along the line.
Hi again
In Free BMD he married Sophia Wood in Bedford jun qtr 1850.
Joseph is 14 bn York in 1851 census.
Trying to find what religion Wm was to help with burial.
If he got his diploma's in New York he may not have been in 1841 census?

Hi we're tag teaming!!
I saw the middle name of Coffin and wondered about that.
Another little angel.
Perhaps Albert was Williams mentor with his botanical research in USA?

Hi Tina
I've searched everywhere to try to find evidence that he went to New York but found nothing at all, I am coming to the conclusion that that was a bit of a porky.
Sophia Woods his 2nd wife is the daughter of Charles Wood of Bletsoe, Bedfordshire, after William's death in 1859 she married a James Schofield and they along with their child James and her 2 other children William Henry Chippendale (my gg) John Myers Chippendale they moved to Wigan my home town.

a little bit of info regarding Albert Isaiah Coffin
Coffin may have begun orthodox medical training but claimed to have been influenced by Native American healers, after being successfully treated for tuberculosis. He first practised in Manchester, using key remedies, lobelia (an emetic) and cayenne pepper (for warmth). He wrote 'Botanic Guide to Health' (1845) and 'Treatise on Midwifery and the Diseases of Women and Children' (1849). One of Coffin's assistants, John Skelton, was a great influence on John Boot, the father of Jesse and founder of Boot's pharmaceutical company and high street chemist chain. The institutions of British herbalism, notably the National Institute of Medical Herbalists, can be traced back to Coffin, who was active in London from the late 1840s.
Ironic really that William Chippendale actually died of Ulceration of the Bowel and TB.
Thank you Chris, amazing medical treatments from Native Americans, so early in the century.
Obviously Boots believed in it all. Alternative medicine is for deffo not a new thing.
We only have to look at the plants etc that our indigenous people haved used here in Australia for thousands of years.
Very interesting.
Added: I googled Albert, so much info about him.
Great reading, he died in 1866 in London aged 75yrs
His Will in and burial in Anx.
