I have been trying to locate the birth certificate or baptismal record for Sarah Ann Thompson who was born 1850-1851. her father was a John Thompson born in Rotherham Yorks. about 1819 and her mother was Catherine. They are on the 1861 census in Liverpool along with their sibling but I cannot find the 1851 Census for them. I am trying to determine Catherine's maiden name.
The children are Catherine born 1844
Mary Ann born 1846
Sarah Ann born 1850-1851
John born 1854
Priscilla born 1856
Ann born 1859

Re: thompson
Hi,
While there are at least 6 Sarah Ann Thompson births abt 1848-51 in Manchester, there are only 2 for her sibling Priscilla bn abt 1856.
THOMPSON, Priscilla - Manchester - 1855; and
THOMPSON, Priscilla - Manchester - 1856 [this is her YoB in the census].
If your immediate object is to establish the mother's maiden name you could apply to the GRO for a birth cert and tick the box on the application form that 'you do not know the GRO reference'. A new page will open where you can enter the names of the parents. The chances of both children having parents with the same forenames are minimal. The GRO will search at least one year either side of 1856. There is no additional charge for the search. Just takes a little longer.
I could only find 1 Priscilla abt the right age in 1861 so it would seem only one of the two births survived:
Death: THOMPSON, Priscilla
Registration district: Manchester
Year/qtr of registration: 1858 / Oct-Nov-Dec
Volume no: 8D; Page no: 261.
