Working on my database for next Saturday and I have another incorrectly recorded date of death.
Private Daniel Albert Emberton appears in a list released by the War Office 8th December 1916 as being killed in action. His obituary notice was published in the Liverpool Evening Express 29th November 1916 by his parents which state his date of death as 28th October 1916. Guess what his date of death is recorded as on CWGC and SDGW 28th October 1918, His year of death on the GRO War Deaths 1914-1921 is 1916. This soldier is commemorated on the VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL. If I am correct and he was killed at the Battle of the Somme he should be recorded on the Thiepval Memorial. I think to-morrow morning Katie is getting on the phone to talk to the Commission I must have about 10 now.

Private John Horan Sherwood Forresters appeared in a list released by the War Office 28th November 1916 as having Died of wounds received. His date of death on CWGC is recorded as being 31st October 1917 SDGW has his date of death as recorded 31st October 1916 GRO War deaths 1914-21 records his year of death 1916.

Oh Boy! I see the steam from here! I can understand census transcribers [probably in a far-off foreign land] making an absolute hames of a census page, but the CWGC and a military death....? I would have expected 100% accuracy from them. Someone isn't paying attention!
