I have now obtained the birth certificate of Amy Rogers, born 4th October 1892. This child later died, aged 5, after her mother, Alice Rogers, married my grandfather, Alexander Grosart. I have mentioned elsewhere that the death is recorded in both names, Amy Rogers and Amy Grosart.
My query relates to the childs place of birth. Her mothers address is shown as 66 Wavertree Vale, Wavertree, but the place of birth is shown as 224 Smithdown Lane. I am curious as to whether Smithdown Lane and Smithdown Road were one and the same before any re developement. Further, would it have been Smithdown Road Hospital by another name?
If there is any info. out there re either address I will be very grateful. Alice Rogers, the childs mother is shown as a housemaid and I am wondering if either address would have been where she worked.

The Lane is separate from the road and is nearer to Crown Street. I cannot think of any link with the hospital.

Hi Philip
Smithdown Lane was a very long "road" back then, ran off Paddington.
224 was a midwife Mrs Mary Byrom who perhaps delivered babies at her home?
This is from 1894 Gores/Kellys Directory

Tina,
In this country it is morning. In my book it is Good Morning. Thank you again for your help. I keep thinking that I have come to the end of my "road" of research and can get on with trying to put it all together, but then another page opens and all you good folks kick start me again. I really do appreciate all your help.
Phil,
P.S. Glad we won your Grand Prix, now for the cricket!

Re: Smithdown Road / Lane
Smithdown Rd. shared a crossroads with Smithdown Lane, Tunnel Rd. and Lodge Lane. The hospital on Smithdown Rd. was called Sefton General, with the cemetery along side.
Hope this helps
