Submitters on Familysearch

Post by Daisycakes »

My brain is not working very well today  ....When you see a submitters name and sometimes addresss on Familysearch is that person simply the transcriber for Familysearch or someone who has a tree on there.

Thanks Ann :)

Not a transcriber, just somebody who thinks that they have information and enters it. ALWAYS verify for yourself, don't take it for granted, however the more specific the entry - ie if there was an exact date, specific church etc. the more likelihood that someone has actually looked at the Parish Register - and of course makes it easier for you to know where the check.

Those most suspicious are examples such as John Smith married to Mrs Smith.

submitter is the name of the person who sent the information to the church, usually a church member. the information is never verified by the church for accuracy so you must do the research from there. as Mary says the more detailed the information the better chance you have of locating it yourself. however you could contact the submitter and see if they are willing to share their resources. I have recieved copies of wills, certs etc. proving their find. just remember this is another person searching for the same name as you and it may not add up or it may.
