Help please from directory or probate calendar
I am trying to find the occupation of Robert Wilding Butler who died in 1944 aged 58, having lived in Aigburth. In 1911 he was a law clerk.
Some old Kelly's Directories gave occupations, and if anyone has a pre WW2 edition perhaps they could look for him.
Otherwise, is it Ancestry that has probate records? Could any subscriber look for him in 1944/5?
Many thanks.

Hi daggers
Kelly's 1938 directory has him living at 19 Bilston Road, L 17 unfortunately no occupation given.
Looked up solicitors, but he wasn't listed there.
He wasn't in the 1914 directory that I could see.
Not really a lot of help if it was the occupation you were after

Had another look in 1914 for the family.
1911 census had them living at 45 Stopford Street, Dingle, but they are not there in 1914.
Also no sign of Edward Butler, Robert's father.
Not sure if there is another directory around between 1914 and 1938, can't see anyone in our Directory of Directories.

Thanks for all that digging. I remember the name of Arkle & Darbishire from post WW2 days - firms lasted a lot longer then than now, it seems.
I am putting together notes on the few burials recorded at St Anne, Aigburth, [where there are also many burials of ashes]. This information helps to round off this entry.

The records for Arkle & Darbishire ( Solicitors ) are held at Lancashire Record Office. Could have something there if you are interested.
Seeing St Anne's Church mentioned brought back loads of memories for me.
I used to go there regularly and always for Church Parade in the Brownies and Guides, also later I was confirmed there
Mr Ruffel was the vicar then and there was a lovely vicarage along Aigburth Road.
Sorry a bit off topic, but I love the old memories

I think I have enough about Butler now, thanks.
The church parades continue once a month, and the parish hall is somewhat improved.
The old vicarage was sold, demolished and replaced by bland flats. The replacement is one of the houses near the Methodist church, which has closed down recently.
There have been three vicars since Ruffell, whom I did not know.
I could go on..., but might be off topic.
