But John's dad is Michael :?

so is this the family you mean in 1881
RG11; Piece: 3699; Folio: 111; Page: 7
Name Age
55 Holborn Street
Mary Burke 34 widow b Liverpool
Joseph Burke 13
Robert Burke 8
Mathew Burke 5

which could be 1871

Name Age RG10; Piece: 3781; Folio: 104; Page: 57
Joseph Burke 30 b Eniskillen Ireland
Mary Burke 25 b Liverpool
Joseph Burke 3 b Liverpool
Richard Burke 1 bLiverpool
Margaret Aley 18

so now we have 2 Burkes families, one with John whose dad is Michael and he had a brother Mark b 1876 on the 1891 census.

Then we have Matthew with Joseph and Mary but no brother John.

We have a birth reg for each of them Matthew and Mark in 1876, but also a death reg in 1876 fro Matthew which may in fact be nothing to do with them

so either Alice married Mark (brother to John) b 1876 and he is calling himself Matthew on the marriage cert and in 1901, or the Matthew she married is the son of Joseph and Mary, and maybe he and John are cousins

Deffo need to see that marriage certficate

Yikes :!:

I'm with Simone on this, you need to make a trip to the Record Office and get the marriage details. Work from facts not from somebody's memory that could be either faulty or she may know only what she was told.

Matthew/Mark

Post by colette »

Hi

Thanks for the marriage lookup hes gotta be the same man.. but why call yourself Matthew..it just shows you for future cases about names doesnt it..maybe everyone knew him as Mark, but on formal documents he used Matthew.. :?

Any Sue found his burial in Ford.. ford cemtertry/plot 1145 public grave address liverpool workhouse date 2/21908 age 32 cheers sue

So he must have taken ill and went to the Workhouse Infirmary.

So i think this case is closed now Matthew & Mark are the same man..

And the other Matthew did go to the States were he remained..

My nan is Mary Burke's daughter. Mary had 3 other siblings she was the eldest of four there was Ellen mark and Joseph, then when her mother married John (her dads brother) she has more siblings, there was 2 sets of twins and only one person from each set survived a lady called Alice and a man called John who died when he was 21 and there was also a woman called Bella.
Its hard to find their records because each member of the family would spell their names differently

Hi Carly

Welcome to the forum. It was Alice's father Martin McDermott who was born in Ireland. The 1875 marriage record of Martin McDermott and Mary Maguire says Martin's father was called Charles McDermott, occupation Tailor. I did a baptism search for Martin son of Charles on the Irish websites but nothing matched. Maybe in the future when more Irish records are available you will be able to find out where in Ireland the McDermotts came from.
