Rainhill Records
I don't know if it was our encouragement or the temptation of photographs as well as quite a comprehensive casebook file, but it seems Colette can't wait to make an appointment to see the documents next week. Go Col and let us know all about your findings afterwards.

Hi DS
Thanks for your reply, yes knew there was a hospital, but thought for a small chance she may have been at the Workhouse, but thinking now, if she had an address on the Death Cert, you will be right.
I have already posted the query on here under Thomas Patterson, mother Amy, not sure if you have seen this already.
My question would be the same as your's GGmother, spinster, but mum say's it was never a discussed subject with my Grandad, all three children have no father on the birth Cert.
Only one baptism for the oldest daughter, she has a father, named Thomas, maybe as posted, she felt shamed into doing so, as she was born a few doors down from where she lived at the time. Grandad and the youngest daughter both born in workhouses, Grandad at Smithdown Road, and is younger sister at Walton
Question are there any baptism records for children born in a workhouse??
Another pair of eyes would be appreciated if you have a minute. Well over 2 years of research to no avail.
regards
Michelle

And very interesting it is too, I've heard it previously, if you have any worries about the care received and conditions your ancestors lived in, you will be reassured as she is able to give some insights into what their life was like. Thank you for bringing that to our attention Glenys.

Thourght i would share what Roger Hull said to me he has been so helpful and i can't wait to go see these records..
Yes the Elizabeth Cook I have found does seem to be the one you are interested in as the admission papers (614 RAI 1/21) do refer to her husband Archibald. In the case book (614 RAI 8/15) (1892) she is listed as aged 38, a Protestant and living in Foley Street . The casebook file is very comprehensive in its diagnosis of her condition and there are two images of her. As there might be yet more the fee would have to be £25 as it would take some time to digitise all this and send it to you but as indicated you can come in person to view the material though we do need advance notice to our temporary site at Sandhills (see website at www.liverpool.gov.uk
Re the death cert i have ordered..Oct-Dec 1922 I thourght oh dear i have wasted £10..as Roger said she died in 1923..after looking at Elizabeth Cook deaths 1923 i cannot find it..I am assuming as he knows her death date she died at Rainhill..
I am thinking maybe 1923 should be 1922 and the 2 looks like a 3 we shall see whan it arrives..as i say i cannot find a death in Prescot 1923 for her..
xx

As you've been corresponding with Roger I'd just email him and ask when you can come and see the records. Maybe give a couple of suggestions of days.
Ask in the email what identification you will need to take with you and say that there will be two of you attending. Both will need identification if necessary.
Make sure you take pencil and paper with you as no pens are allowed. Also in your email ask if it's OK to take your camera with you. It will be as I've used mine there.
When you go make sure you've got loads of battery power in the camera and take lots of shots. You may be a photo wizard so won't need as many as I do!! Even then some are awful!!
Above all enjoy yourself when you go.

Yes they will issue you with a readers card when you have shown them your identification. Not sure if there are any photocopiers at Sandhills, so take some change with you too, just in case.
The important thing is not to nervous, get excited! you are going to find out something new and exciting and just remember it has been a first time for everybody.

Hiya
And thanks ladies..i am awaiting an email from him regarding the Cottage Home records..as i may as well look at these too..
when he replies i shall make appointment and thanks for all the tips ..i am ok at taking digital photos and have a good camera..i know what you mean Hilary some look ok but when you put them on big screen they are awful..i will triple every image to be safe..
Mary i am excited havent slept properly for nights haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..i think if you have a passion like we do its the best feeling to find records like these..
I feel like i know this woman so much..but also feel so sorry for her and what she went through.
This leaves me wondering who the mystery lady with the limp was
who used to meet Jane my Great Gran by Kirkdale Station..Jane's hubby Alexander would not let her in the house.
I was told this story by my Aunty Sally Jane's daughter who is still alive born 1919, Jane also has a son still alive named Archibald .he has slight dementia now as hes in his 80s
I am starting to think this Mystery lady was Elizabeth's hubbys fancy woman Mary E ???? ACTING LIKE A SURROGATE MOTHER TO JANE..
once again ladies thank you all so much for your help I truely appreciate you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

What a shame Val, I believe I have an email address for her at home, so will make contact and ask. It is a couple of years since I saw her give the talk last, not to say she hasn't done it in between that time and now.

Testing out Lee's new online forms, I've sent a message through to the "Contact Us" for Widnes Group, asking the question.

Cook
Hi all
still waiting for Roger to reply regarding Cottage Home Records..
But had one stroke of luck the death cert arrived today it was the right one 17th November 1922..aged 68 Senile Decay, husband Archibald Cook the address they have for her was 70 Foley Street which is funny because when she was admitted in 1892 the address was Foley Street, this maybe a clue to her family..as i havent been able to find her before her marriage in 1873..
I did find out something in the newspaper regarding her first son William he burnt to death aged 2 at Juliet Street in 1876..this has obviously caused her so much stress..I am not surprised she lost the plot..i would have too..
Then i go and find Archibalds father working on the Steam ship Malta and falling into the hatch he died 1879.
Then Archibald's sister Annie Bella dies in Childbirth 1879, and her baby son folows one month later..
And to top it all off i then find Archibald's sister Jane's husbands Brother Francis Winterson he died 1882 his head got crushed under a wagon on the railway line
what a tragic family

Oh that's so sad, what a lot of tragedy in one family. Glad you have so much confirmed already, the address on the certificate may just be the one that was on the Admittance Register, it's down to you now to investigate
Val, Widnes Group have confirmed that the date of the Meeting should be Wednesday, 28th March.
