Freemen of Liverpool

Post by daggers »

Before the refurbishment of the Central Library started I was able to look at some volumes of names of those admitted as Freemen, by inheritance, by trade etc ., not the honorary variety for distinguished lives.

Can anyone remind me of the references, and the period for which the records are available? It would be even better if someone has transcribed the lists!

I have some copies myself which I filed under the reference of 579 CLE-REG so checked the Online Catalogue and it seems to be correct
6 352 CLE/REG Liverpool Corporation: Town Clerk's Department: Registration records 1692-1939
7 352 CLE/REG/1 Freemen's Committee Books 1756-1939
8 352 CLE/REG/2 Freemen's Registers 1692-1939
9 352 CLE/REG/3 Declarations of Freemen 1872-1939
10 352 CLE/REG/5 Registers of Voters 1832-1844

Actually there are a lot more so you would be best to search the catalogue, just the word "freemen" brought up about 5 pages of listings.

Sorry I doubt there is anything online, I haven't come across any anyway.

Mary
Thanks for asking. The op was on 3 Jan and they kept me in for a week. Now adjusted to crutches but much work needed to regain flexibility, incl. weekly physio sessions.
My library ticket is overheating, and I am trying to get used to this Ipad which seems to miss many of the PC's functions.
