Unusual first name

Hi everyone! Happy New Year!. I have returned to the society after a two year absence. Question: I have come across the female first name of RABBEDYE on the wills of two ancestors from Kent, 15th century. Have "Googled" it without success. Anyone know where I might search further please?

Could be a biblical name but with a different spelling to the modern spelling in the bible. That would explain why it doesn't show up on the google search.

Thanks Blue. I'll look at biblical names see if I can find a clue. She had a sister named Dionyse, I found that on Google. It has a lot of French links. They were from Ramsgate, Kent so perhaps a French/Norman connection.

dye could be a family name if they added Rabah hebrew for fourth born it would make sense. Rabbe is a french surname as well

Thanks for looking up for me. I was aware of that will and that of his wife Joan. They make fascinating reading and instead of just names and dates real people appear. That's an interesting theory about the girl's name. Some of the searching about the name Dionyse indicates that the more modern name Denise is derived from it. Perhaps Rabbedye has a more modern equivalent that is yet to be discovered.
