Joseph Hughes

Post by Mark Abbott »

I am currently researching this individual who served as 241208 Pte J hughes 1/6th Liverpool Regiment. Sadly, he was killed on 30 November 1917 and is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial.

He was born on 18th December 1896, the son of Thomaas Owen and Elizabeth Hughes and baptized on 17 March 1897 at St Cleopas Church, Toxteth.

I have found his baptism record but unfortunately I cannot make out either his address or his father's occupation; can any one assist?

Thanks

Hello Mark,
I don't have access to the Ancestry Parish records so couldn't check the address for 1896. However, this is the only J Hughes bn Liverpool 1896 with parents Thomas O and Elizabeth in the 1901 census. The later census shows the O to be Owen.

1901:
HUGHES, Thomas O - Hd - Md - 43 - Warehouseman (Cotton) - Liverpool.
HUGHES, Elizabeth - Wife - 38 - Liverpool.
HUGHES, Percy - Son - 10 - Liverpool.
HUGHES, Frederick - Son - 5 - Liverpool.
HUGHES, Joseph - Son - 4 - Liverpool.
HUGHES, Marion - Dtr - 2 - Liverpool.

RG13 - Piece:3432 - Folio:84 - Page:9
Address: 71 Harlow Street, Toxteth Park.

Ten years later the family, incl Joseph, are living at 49 Maitland Street, Toxteth Park.
