Lyons/McLean marriage -Register Office or Registrar Attended
Hi,
I have been looking in to my grandfathers family tree again and am wondering if someone would mind checking something out for me. I am wondering if someone could look up if there is a possible baptism record for a Beatrice M Lyons born 1919 in Chorlton Lancashire? Also if anyone can find anymore details on a marriage of a Dennis Lyons to a Margaret Mclean in 1914 West Derby Lancashire? and with them having a a possible child Denis Lyons 1915 West Derby?
Thanks
p.s.I'll be glad when I can get myself a subscription to a site for all this information!!

http://lancashirebmd.org.uk has this marriage as "West Derby, Register Office or Registrar Attended"
The marriage may have taken place in the Register Office, in which case the only way of obtaining the Certificate is through the GRO.
This entry may also mean that the marriage took place in an RC or non confirmist church, however the parishes available online don't presently cover this entry.
The mother's maiden name of Denis Lyons (born 1915) is given as McLean so is almost certainly the child of the above marriage.
Charles W Lyons - Mother's maiden name McLean - Q2 1919 West Derby 8b 756
West Derby is not the place of the birth, but the registration district where the birth was registered. Information about the district can be found here

I'm not aware of any of our members in the Manchester area, so would be able to check the baptism for this entry, and I feel that it is unlikely to be a child of the above as it would be a similar date to a second child I suspect to be a sibling to Denis -Beatrice M Lyons born 1919 in Chorlton Lancashire

Having looked at the image again, I'm still doubtful about the occupation, not positive DS is right with dressmaker. I could offer "Doubler" as marked in front of the word by the enumerator is "Cott", presumably cotton and a doubler "Operated a machine twisting yarn in cotton/woolen mills. The yarn on different bobbins is combined onto another bobbin". I'm not sure about this transcription either.
The children are obviously grandchildren, as transcribed by DS, but they aren't noted as that on the image.

I stand corrected! Should have followed my own advice and checked the image.

The FMP transcriber has taken liberties with the image information. And who am I to complain about that? By FMP own rules the transcription should read with the 3 young children as 2 daughters and son, but somebody used their nouse and thought.. they have to be g.children.
The occupation for Marya [?] Lyons aged 25 is 'doubler' with cott written in front exactly as MaryA says. I will amend my post to reflect the image information.

I do agree with your transcription, it's logical, just doesn't say so. Do you agree with doubler? I even wondered about dribler but couldn't find anything out about that

Doubler is definitely right. Think the cotton trade being almost at its height.. there are lots of strange-sounding occupations in that trade... I've come across many, as we all have, from Jack frame tenter, Stripper and grinder, Throstle spinner, and lots more in this link courtesy of Rootschat...MaryA wrote:I do agree with your transcription, it's logical, just doesn't say so. Marriage search
If the marriage was in the 1920s or thereabouts, it should be OK to post it here. But if you know one party, the year, and the marriage was 1912 or later, you should find the other party to the union on FreeBMD.jasp2003 wrote:no it wont send for some reason.I just wanted to ask if u would mind checking a marriage for me but as the person may still be alive i didnt think i should post it on here. I am just trying to find out who they married.

Their marriage index transcriptions are almost complete up to about 1945 and it is a free site.

Matter now dealt with, the marriage was in 1969 so right not to post on the forum.
