Oh wow `uncle`Maurice.

Mum is convinced he was `at sea` but he must have been around enough for her to clearly remember him. She is also convinced he was killed by a torpedo, but that must have been after mum left Liverpool and as she had very little contact with her father it can only be something she was told second hand through somebody else, may not have been true. However Mum was back in contact with her Father (yearly at least!) by 1968 and I would have thought if Uncle Maurice died around this time her Father would have mentioned it - unless James and Maurice were no longer in contact.

I was wondering why if her daughter Mary and son Maurice were in contact with Mum, Sarah herself was not, a death date of 1931 would explain that one.

Happy new year everyone

I am back on the ancestors search- mum has been quite poorly in hospital but back home and recovering now! so I have got around to ordering Sarah Corfields` death certificate it came today the informant on it is

James Corfield, son of deceased, address 98 ARLINGTON ST

If this is my Grandfather James then why would he be getting married in 1930 as a James Mcloughlin but informing on a Death Certificate just a year later as James Corfield. Sarah is decsribed as a widower of Edward Corfield on James marriage certificate his father is given as Patrick Mcloughlin (deceased) and mum has said she thinks auntie Mary-Ann and uncle Morris were half or step siblings to her father.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if I am correct in thinking the informant actually signed the original certificate? I have other certificates where an X is shown with the words it is the mark of the person so this leads me to think the person must sign or at least make a cross and the registrar did not just record the name.
