Mulling over the snippet that Jill posted about her mum recalling an 'aunt' in the USA led me to check out Annie Welsh's siblings that Blue has turned up at Eldon Street. The youngest daughter Rose Ann could have married....

I think the name might be Mary Caulfield there was a Mary Caulfield a couple of years younger than Annie living in the Great Mersey Street area who married a Donald McVey in 1930. She might have been a close friend. Mary Walsh/Welsh married William Thompson in 1929.

Hi DS
It's possible the priest entered the marriage note in the baptism register for the wrong Walsh sister. You're right there doesn't appear to be a registration for a Mary Walsh/Welsh and William Thompson marriage in 1929 and it looks like Rose Ann married William not Mary. Here is the margin note from Mary's baptism where I got this information:-

Bit iffy on the sailing DS. The only one I have found arrived in New York 20th August, 1920 so that might be a bit soon for the one you found, on the Celtic. Mary Walsh (yes Walsh not Welsh) was 20, a domestic and Irish from Kilkelly. Next of kin at home was Mother Mrs Walsh and she was going to Hoboken.

The 1881 Census shows three generations of the Walsh family living at 15 Sawney Pope Street (Alexander Pope Street). Annie's father Thomas and his siblings were living with parents Michael & Bridget and grandfather William. The parents and grandfather were from County Mayo, Ireland.

Hi DS
The Corfield/Welsh marriage was on 5 Aug 1895 at All Saints C of E church. Both addresses were Horatio Street, witnesses were Thomas and Jane Ellis but the father for Mary is a Francis Welsh. I was hoping it would say Michael Welsh which would have made this Mary a brother of Thomas Walsh/Welsh.

I can not begin to tell you how grateful I am to you all, the amount of research being done is just amazing!!!
Mary Corfield who went to USA 1922 must surely be mum`s `auntie`in America. Her last address in UK being the same one James Mcloughin was married from 8yrs later can not just be coincidence!!!! Do not no what the connection would be between James and Mary, certainly she was close enough to him to send gifts to mum and to request she be sent to live with her, but just to be able to tell mum Auntie Mary was connection from her fathers side and tell her the year she departed for USA is a wonderful thing.
My concern with the Annie Welsh born 1906 Jan/Feb/Mar is her father dying in 1910, The Thomas Walsh on Annie`s marriage certificate is not described as deceased in 1930, so Annie must have known her Father was still alive and know he was a gas works labourer, or maybe she had been told that was the case incorrectly???
I have managed to scan Marriage certificate so hope you can read it ok and size alright, possibly one signature is a Donoghue??

Hello Jill,
Re:
It isn't back to the drawing board time yet..
Re the names.. One is certainly Donoghue but can't decide on the forename initials. I think the other is J Guffe. It is clearer if you reduce the image by around 75%.
DS
Re:
Whether or not a marriage cert shows a father as being deceased depended on the Registrar asking the question.. "Is your father alive or deceased?" It was sometimes the case that the question was not asked but the father was in fact deceased, so the 'Deceased' notation was not entered on the certificate. My concern with the Annie Welsh born 1906 Jan/Feb/Mar is her father dying in 1910. Is this any better?
Assuming that different people wrote those names, I think it might be J Duffe. Definitely Donoghue, possibly E something?

I've got some more information from the passenger list for Mary Corfield, age 27, domestic servant, arriving in New York in 1922. Next to her former address of 6 Blackstone Street there is a contact name it says "Mother Sarah Corfield" so Mary is definitely single at this time. Mary's final destination was Chicago, Illinois and her contact in Chicago was her friend Miss Margaret Duddy of 5238 South Park Avenue Chicago Illinois.

Every time I come on here my Jaw hits the floor at the amount of information that comes up
I am certain this Mary Corfield is my mums `Auntie` The address is the same one on James Mcloughlin`s marriage certificate. I found from the 1901 census that Mary had a brother called Morris born 1895, the one relative mum can clearly remember is an Uncle Morris!!! When I started trying to find mums family I was looking for a Morris/Maurice Walsh/Mcloughlin and of course couldn`t find one. I do not know what connects the Corfields and James Mcloughlin. Interestingly I have found Sarah Corfield on the 1911 census as head of the family but not described as a widow with son Morris born 1895 and son JAMES born 1901 !!!! As exciting as that got me I can`t imagine why that James could end up being my grandfather James Mcloughlin.
Thank you Mary for making the signatures clearer. The whole of the certificate looks like it might have been written by the same person even Annie`s and James signatures look like the same hand writing- I always though the bride and groom at least would of had to sign so maybe I`m wrong but there is something very uniform about it.
I keep chewing over all the Annie Walsh leads, but just don`t know if, as I know nothing about her at all except her marriage and death dates, I am ever going to be able to claim one as `mine` I guess that is what it is like when tracing people from a time when records may not be accurate.
once again thank you so much for your hard work ( and for continuing to read my ramblings

Uncle Maurice?
Hello Jill,
Re the 'Uncle' Maurice you mentioned....
This is Maurice [aka Morris in a census] Corfield, born 24/10/1894 in Liverpool. I believe him to be the son of Sarah Corfield. The photo is from a Merchant Navy record card.

I haven't yet found him as a casualty of war, so this is probably his death...
Death: CORFIELD, Maurice
Registration District: Liverpool North, Lancashire
Year/qtr of registration: 1968 / Oct-Nov-Dec
Age at death: 73
