Hi,
I am looking for the birth\marriage\death of Charles Ashley b.1813 Liverpool
coach\car driver married Ann ? b.1815 Connahs Quay
I have him in 1851, 1861& 1871 census RG10/3846 in West Derby Liverpool.
1881 Census Ann is down as Head age 66 with her daughter in law and grandchildren.
He does not seem to come up before or after these dates.

If you haven't got one of the children's birth certifcates I think this should be your next step.

Ann Jane was registered June Q in Liverpool in 1846 volume 20 page 641

That will give you Ann's maiden name and we will make finding a marriage easier. Once you have the marriage certificate that will give you both Charles and Ann's father's names which should help a lot.

Do you have these possible connections with a Charles Ashley as witness. Notice first marriage is an Ann Jane Ashley (sister possibly, given that his daughter is Ann Jane)

Thanks for your reply, no have not seen these before if there is a connection I will let you know, the only thing I have found is the son of Charles Thomas, this is his marriage.

Hi,
Now have the birth cert for Ann Jane Ashley. Father Charles Dodson Ashley a coachman (cardriver) is who I am looking for he married Ann Evans who is from Flinshire Wales. I cannot find a record of their marriage to send for the cert. I have also come up blank on his birth & death. Any help out there appreciated.

then apparently a separate household
Julia Ranson 30 bn ireland
John Jackson 10 not bn in county

Family search has the baptism of Charles Astley 4 April 1813 to Corliam and Sarah Astley

I can't find this on Ancestry BUT can find 28 Nov 1810 at St Peter James son of William Ashley coachman Williamson Street and Sarah Bagnele

Thereb is also the earlier find of a Ann Jane Ashley father William Ashley coachman I'm wondering if Charles Astley and Corliam are really Charles Ashley son William and the transcribing was struggling to read the entry.

William Ashley coachman married Sarah Bagnal on 4 April 1808 at St Anne Richmond Liverpool both made their marks.

Found the baptism from Family Search on www.lan-opc.org.uk

Abode: Wood St
Occupation: Coachman

It looks very possible to me.

Thanks Hilary and Simone for your help, I think this must be the right family. I know Charles Ashley is on the 1871 census, but his wife Ann is down as head on the 1881 so has possibly died in between these two dates. Thanks again this give me something to work on.

Can I ask where you found this marriage, I cannot seem to come up with it.William Ashley coachman married Sarah Bagnal on 4 April 1808 at St Anne Richmond Liverpool both made their marks.
I have found a possible marriage for Charles Ashley and Ann Evans in May 1839 but the name is Ashton and Charles has signed his name Ann left her mark. Fathers name is William coachman.

Hi Simone,
Thanks for that I looked on Ancestry but could not find it. card catalogue is only 1813-1921, and it did not come up in the BMD. so don't know what I am doing wrong.
