Bainbridge, William, of Liverpool, mariner 1793
Book: Births Anno 1657. (Birth)
Collection:
Cheshire: - Wills and Inventories, 1791-1800
I've done a search on Cheshire Records office site of wills and can't see it.
My William Bainbridge died in 1793 (Lancs opc) and his occupation on burial, baptism of son William and on his marriage states he is an Oil Painter. Perhaps this was a part time occupation when not at sea? what do you think?
Can I get a copy of this Will or inventory? sorry I know this has prob been asked before but can't remember in realtion to the time period I am looking for
would like to try and fathom out if this is my William
Thanks

Even if you can't get to the Record Office yourself, it's not terribly expensive to ask them to photocopy and post it to you.

To be honest, thinking about it, even if you went, found the entry and had it brought to you to read, if you wanted the photocopy, they don't do it there and then anyway, it is posted out to you later.

Got my Will in the post today... It as was written in 1778 3 months after marriage, when William would have been about 18, leaving all to his 'tender loving wife, Mary'
On it he says 'William Bainbridgeof Liverpool Mariner belonging to the St George Captain Hanley' and later states 'Ricahrd Hanley Commander'
Could I find anything about the St George?
Thanks

Just googled HMS St George. Used HMS because William referred to his captain Richard Hanley as 'commander', not a merchant navy term. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_St_George
You may also find something by googling "Captain Richard Hanley", with the quotes.

I was going to check out some newspapers but unfortunately the Lancs Gov site is giving me the elbow. Have to try again tomorrow or Monday.

I know Mary, and he was only 18.... lovely the way they phrased things in those days must have really loved her He always put his occupation as Oil Painter on all records, his marriage and the children's baptisms, the only one with Mariner on is the Will. I take it he had to make the Will because he was going on a voyage...
Makes me think he may have been a sensitive soul...can't imagine him enjoying those long voyages... Wonder how he died Poor Mary left with 7 children, the last being born 6 days after he was buried
Thanks for trying to help.
