Landed Gentry came to our help desk today
A young chap came to our Liverpool Help desk today because he had been told one of his ancestors was involved with the Slave Trade in Liverpool and James Street was named after him. I asked him about his family tree and if he had brought any documentation with him, he hadn't but he did have his fathers and grandfather details on his Ipod which he showed me. Well his Grandfather is only Sir Archibald William Henry James.

The family tale is that they hailed from Cumbria but there is a connection to Liverpool and they were not that well off back then, I would loved to have spent a couple of hours looking for the connection
I advised him to look in Burkes Peerage and Who's who
lovely chap apologised to me for being connected to the Blue's
What a day

Off the main topic, but this might be of general interest:
QUOTE "Address: Rosemount, Elmswood Road, Garston, Lancashire."
This house name sometimes appears as Rosemont, and in 1932 became the site of a zoo. Rosemont Road now occupies much of the site.
There is some information in the descriptive notes on the reverse side of the Godfrey Edition map of Mossley Hill, 'Lancashire 113.08'.

Re: Henry A's Dad
Hey Tina, I think you may have found the Cumbria connection. Grasmere is in Cumbria! So it was Sir Archibald's g.mother who came from 'up North'.Tina wrote:Just got to share with the crew who all know my birthplace![]()

And re the slave trade... Many 'merchants' were involved. They would finance the slavers who would sail from UK ports to the coast of Africa, collect/buy a ship load of slaves, transport them across the Atlantic to be sold and with the proceeds buy a shipload of goods for import such as sugar, cotton etc.
