I don't think we can agree that he wasn't sacked as from all I have read noone was reinstated.

I also agree with DS that he is far more likely to have been an ARP warden.

You need to study the Police Watch commitee minutes and look at directories to find out what he is listed as doing.

Please post the website where the photo is.

A few observations:
Don't forget that the Docks Police were a separate force from the City's.

ARP wore battledress, similar to the army's, but navy blue, so not at all like the police's.

A police inspector's cap would be different from a constable's - silver braid on the peak etc.

Hello,
It could account for Daisy being at Castor Street when she married and the IoM connection if Florence moved back to the IoM later.
It looks like Florence Beatrice Conde did indeed move back to the Isle of Man. She died in 1976 aged 87 and is buried in Douglas Borough Cemetery. There is an entry for her on this website:

Hi Alison and welcome to the forum.

Thank you for posting that link, it's a good site for IOM burials.

I was in Crosby Library this morning and as they have some copies of the Liverpool Directories in book form I had a quick look for Richard Robert Knowles

Address always 72 Langton Road Wavertree
1918 Rd Rt Knowles police constable
1922 Rd Rt Knowles labourer
1925 Rd Rt Knowles labourer
1927 Rd Rt Knowles labourer
1931 Rd Rt Knowles taxi proprietor
1935 Rd Rt Knowles taxi proprietor
1939 Rd Rt Knowles taxi proprietor
1941 Rd Rt Knowles taxi proprietor

I have been told that pre and post 1939-1945 war that there was a lot of antique furniture going cheap because of the recession and the war. My father's cousin bought good antique furniture this way immediately post war.

Summer has come again and with it...holidays! As I haven't logged in since September I have just seen your last post...thank you SOOOOOOO much! The "taxi" information really helps to confirm that I have the right person! I was wondering..."labourer" sounds rather a general term...is the a way to know what his specific profession at the time was? Moreover...I would like to visit his grave but have no idea of when he died and where is he buried. Can you suggest how I can go about finding that kind of information?
