tracing clergymen

I have just found that my gt grandfather was a clerygman and moved about the country. Does anyone know if there is anywhere that would keep records of the lives of clergymen?

I think the answer would depend on which church he was a clergyman ie C of E RC Methodist etc

There is an online Church of England Clergy database www.theclergydatabase.org.uk/ for early clergy

There's the Crockford's Clerical Directory libraries/record offices often have older editions

Googling can produce results

John Rylands Library Manchester would I imagine be the place for Methodist ministers

As my name has come up I will agree with what has been said. The clergy database is better on early periods than more recent times, and is far from complete, though ongoing, I believe. Crockfords is better from mid-Victorian days, and summarises careers of CofE clergy, so worth looking at a few editions if you can find them.
