Tracing birth entry - shortened name?

An elusive customer is proving difficult to find in Free BMD, but there may be smoke and mirrors around.
Would someone named as Louise or Louisa become Lucy?

its possible daggers lucy was used for family name on louise louisa lucille lucinda . another popular nickname was lissy or lisa
southport woman long way from home. aka "Tide is always out at Southport Wombat"
