I may have gone off on a tangent finding those marriages, at that time I didn't know Elizabeth's age, but when people say they can't find a marriage the first thing I always look for and investigate is a possible previous marriage. If that is then discounted and all other avenues draw a blank, then it can only be supposed that there was no marriage as others have suggested.

The reason for suggesting an RC marriage is because the LancsBMD site said that the marriage between Elizabeth Nolan and Henry Whittaker was either "Salford Register Office or Registrar Attended". RC or non conformist marriages needed a registrar to attend the church as the priest was not - and still isn't I believe - able to register the marriage as a C of E vicar can.

I see you have already discovered the Record Office to check the parish registers.
