Anna Margaret Sprung
Anna Margaret Sprung
This is the same family as the one I posted earlier, but it's a different generation. Anna (Hannah) Margaret Sprung was born in 1831 to Carl Ludwig Sprung and Margaret Looney. I found a marriage for her to a Richard Weatherill in 1865, but could find nothing for her after that. Then I came across her baptism in 1873 (she was 40) at the Church of our Lady of Reconciliation de la Salette. There was mention of a husband Connell and the word Convert but I could find no marriage for her to Connell, no death for Weatherill. Also on the baptism record were the words "dub condition" after her name, does anyone know what this means. Appreciate any help. Regards Moya

In 1851 census Hannah/Anne M was 17 which fits in with my previous past.
She was the eldest of 7 kiddies.
I'm sure you have all this info.
Cheers

Looks like you got it in one! The Ann Sprung [widow] aged 53 is Ludwig's mother and the Ann aged 27 [u/m] is Ludwig's sister. Other siblings of Ludwig present are William aged 15 and Thomas aged 13.

Not having any luck with this. Would it be possible for some kind soul to do a look-up for me. Anna M Sprung married to Richard Weatherill, September quarter 1865, St. Michael in the City, ref: 2054LP/6/480. If the father of Anna is not Carl Ludwig Sprung, a cigar maker then I have hit the proverbial. Many thanks Moya
Sorry that marriage isn't online, you would have to check at the record office.
I looked at the list of all Sprung's to see the father's name and came across this one in case you don't have it.
7 April 1867 St Nicholas, Liverpool
William Fairclough age Full Batchelor Joiner Lambert Street
Father Robert, Coachman
Mary Jane Sprung age Full Spinster Craven Street
Father Carl Ludwig Sprung, Cigar Maker
Both signed their names
Witnesses Thomas Sprung and Adelaide Sprung

St Michaels in the City
The Marriage registers for this Church were destroyed in WW2 so you will have to get the marriage certificate from the Registry office.

Thankyou all. I did have the marriage record for Mary Jane. I have just received from another researcher into this family a copy of Anna Margaret's marriage certificate, she did marry Richard Weatherill ( a mariner) in 1865. I have not been able to find any trace of her after that, until her 2nd baptism in 1873 and I can't figure out why her husband's name would be noted on that record as Connell. Moya
Hi Moya
Can you please give us all the baptism details from 1873 thanks.
She must have converted to another religion to marry Mr Connnell maybe?
Thanks

Hello all. Baptism record:- Born 10 November 1833. Baptism date 27 August 1873. Anna Margt Connell sub condition. Father Caroli (Carl) Sprung. Mother Margt Sprung, olim Looney. On the left of the record are the words "Connell or Sprung, her husbands name is Connell. Convert."
Looked at that entry for Ann Weatherall but as none of her sisters had married a Duffy, didn't see that it could be the same one. On the marriage certificate in 1865, Richard Weatherill is a mariner age 41, his father is Christopher, a glover. Bride & Groom both lived at 67 Highfield St. Witnesses were James and William Merrick Barrow. Regards Moya

The phrase "in law" didn't always mean the same as it does nowadays, it could also have meant "step".moya wrote: Looked at that entry for Ann Weatherall but as none of her sisters had married a Duffy, didn't see that it could be the same one.
Even if it was a brother in law in the way we understand, it could have been husband's sister's husband or husband's step brother.

Many thanks, willl send for birth certificate, pity the child died in 1870 . I guess Richard Weatherill must have died soon after the marriage in 1865. I wonder if Ann would have been allowed to marry in a Catholic Church, because she was certainly married at the time of her conversion baptism in 1873. Have checked the catholic registers for Liverpool but no joy. Have found them both on the 1871 and 1891 census, John Connell came from Warrington Lancashire, but can't find them on the on the 1881, nor can I find a marriage record. Regards Moya
