The plot thickens
The GRO have just sent me a birth cert for William Cummins who has a father called Thomas born in Ireland who is a Corn Porter.
This William has a second name of Jeffry, however William does dot appear on the 1861 Census, although Thomas and his wife does and younger children. But NO WILLIAM ???? Did this one die ?
I am still NOT convinced that this is my William.
I am Happy that Beatrice is my Gr Aunt and I know I have the right family, it is just this WILLAM that is stopping me move back.
Will I be able to get Naval records without a date of birth< or date of joining. We know he died in 1927 at 71yrs, so must of drawn his pension to that date in Plymouth.
What does anybody think ???
It's NOT this difficult when they do it on the TV in Heir Hunters or Who do you think you are !!!!

WILLIAM CUMMINGS
Heirhunters and Who Do You Think You Are do a lot of their investigative work behind the scenes, it wouldn't do for them to give away their secrets would it
Regarding the birth certificate you have just received - I thought you had confirmed that this family was yours.

If so, then did you not ask for the Certificate only if the parents were William & Elizabeth - if you did and they sent you one with the father Thomas, then I think you should get back in touch with them and advise that they have sent the incorrect cert.simone wrote:

Alfred Cummings 9
Fanny Cummings 7
Berty Cummings 5
Beatrice Cummings 2
Henry Cummings 6 Months
Are we then assuming that Beatrice and William have the same parents - so would the details on her birth certificate give the information that you need?homepridefred wrote:I am Happy that Beatrice is my Gr Aunt and I know I have the right family

Hi Mary A
Thomas is the father of William Snr who married Elizabeth Giles
William and Eliz had 10 children incl, Wm Jnr, Beatrice and my grandfather Henry.
It is wm Snr's birth cert I am after. Born Liverpool, circa 1855 to 1859, Married Eliz Giles Plymouth, Died 1927 Plymouth 71 yrs, Father Thomas born Ireland.
Death cert says middle name Mundle, birth cert sent by GRO says middle name Jeffrey ?????

OK let me explain why I was interested in Beatrice's birth certificate.
When you first posted you thought
It certainly is likely but what if your William actually did marry Elizabeth Fitzgerald? His father's name might not be Thomas as you are looking for.
Both Dickiesame and myself have asked for the evidence that your Elizabeth is named Giles and the only way to be certain is from the child's birth certificate.
The middle name of Jeffrey is on the birth certificate that you requested, again what proof have you that this is the correct one? Yes, you have calculated the birth from the death entry, but .... did William himself provide the date of birth to go on his death certificate? or might it have been somebody who wasn't present at the birth?
Sorry to go on about it, each step needs to be verified otherwise there is a possibility that you are researching the wrong person.

We do not know where you got the idea from that Elizabeth's name was Fitzgerald but once Elizabeth Giles was suggested you saidMy William Cummings born in Liverpool Circa 1855 to 60, married Elizabeth ( maybe nee Fitzgerald / Irish ), then moved to Plymouth.
but again seemingly without evidence for this assumption. The marriage to Elizabeth Giles makes sense.
