Trouble with odd numbered houses on findmypast.co.uk
Has anyone else noticed that when you search for a street address on findmypast.co.uk it often only brings up search results for even numbered houses and not odd numbered houses. I've tried searching for houses on Tenterden street and Limekiln lane and most of the results are for even numbered houses. Does anyone know why this might be or how we can overcome this problem. I'm trying to access the 199 census for 125 limekiln lane but can't find it on findmypast. Before anyone asks, it does exist and is on 1911census.co.uk.

Odd numbered houses
Hello Dan,
I don't think it's a problem that we, as subscribers, can overcome. I am fairly sure the lack of odd numbers in a street is because that side of the street hasn't yet been indexed from the enumerator's 'street list'.
I think it happens with even numbers as well. I have found on occasion that while you can locate a particular family living in a numbered dwelling in a particular street, when you try to find that dwelling via an address search you don't get any hits. The dwelling address hasn't been indexed. A contributary fact may be that the odd and even numbers on some streets may fall into different census 'areas'. Often I have found that say #25 XXX Street is several 'pages' away from #26; even in a different Folio or Piece.
As for Limekiln Lane, in the 1901, from an FMP street address search, #125 is occupied by:
O'REILLEY, Catherine - Head - Widow - 50 - 1851 - General Dealer Sweet Shop - Ireland.
Address: 125 Limekiln Lane, Liverpool
RG13 / Piece:3412 / Folio:15 / Page:21
And 125a has:
ADAMS, Richard E - Head - Md - 26 - 1875 - Coal Dealer - Liverpool.
ADAMS, Flora J - Wife - 25 - 1876- Liverpool.
ADAMS, Elizabeth M - Dtr - 3 - 1898 - Liverpool.
ADAMS, Flora - Dtr - 1 - 1900 - Liverpool.
Address: 125a, Limekiln Lane, Liverpool
RG13 / Piece:3412 / Folio:15 / Page:21

Odd numbered houses
Hello Dan,
The problem in this case is indeed one of a mis-indexing!
Try a wild card search for "Limekiln *" [with the space between 'n' and asterisk but without the quotes] and enter Liverpool and Lancashire as Residential place and County respectively.
You should get two results:
1) Limekiln Lancashire Liverpool; and
2) Limekiln Lane
1) = the odd numbers; 2) = the even ones. The first one has been indexed and titled incorrectly and I suggest you email FMP to advise them of the fact and the trouble you had tracking down the other side of the street!
Do the search "Tenterden *" for Tenterden Street as well.
Brian

Another query regarding 125 Limekiln lane.
I've been looking at the electoral registers and both 125 Limekiln lane & 125a limekiln lane appear up until 1924. after then all I can find is 125a limekiln lane.
Does everyone agree with me that this property was probably demolished or perhaps turned into something else other than a dwelling?
If anyone can comment on this I'd be happy to hear from you.

I don't know if it's any help since I don't know how long the building has been there, but the League of Welldoers is 119-133 Limekiln Lane.

League of Welldoers now known as the Lee Jones Centre. They have a marvelous collection of photographs including a few of my great aunt Phoebe on a Darby and Joan outing to New Brighton. The records for the Welldoers are in Merseyside Record Office Collection undr 387 LWD.
Had a look through them once they gave out chits for boots to people who had walked from Newcastle
