Boer War Info?

Post by Barbara B »

Am I right in thinking there was some information on soldiers in the Boer War on Anc***? If so does anyone know where it's gone? I am researching for my cousin. He has a medal for the second Boer War for a Private J Booker, 20th Hussars, military number 4517. I have found the record of the medal but can't find anything else about his military service.
Any advice please?
Thanks in advance

A quick look under military databases on Ancestry reveal no Boer War info that I can see.

There are some on FMP - Anglo Boer War Records 1899 - 1902 and British Army Service Records 1760 - 1913

You can search the index for free as far as I know but will have to obtain credits to look at anything as their terms and conditions state

•You can only use the Services and the Records for your PERSONAL family history research and not for commercial purposes, or to provide lookups for others

DS you are an absolute star! Are you related to Harry Potter because you seem to produce results like a magician.
Don't forget if you ever stray across the Channel you're first in line for a bottle of red.
Many thanks

Barbara,
Not related to Harry Potter, but my mother was more than a little psychic and I may have inherited a crystal ball [or two] as well when my dad's Y chromosome met the psychic X one!

Thanks Hilary and Dickiesam

I've just found my grandfather Charles Rolf's army service record with the King's (Liverpool) between 1894-1904 using FMP. Before today there was only a vague family story of the Boer War and the siege of Ladysmith so thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. I'm more than pleased!

best wishes
