Children in an institution
Children in an institution
Whilst re-visiting the Hazlehursts I came across two entries on the census which must not be named. They are Albert Edward Hazlehurst, born 1901 and Violet Amay (think that should read'May') Hazlehurst, born 1898, both in an institution in West Derby. I have also found the death of their father in 1910 so I suppose the family was split up. Can anyone tell me what orphanages there were in West Derby at that time and if tje records are available? There was another daughter, Ivy but I can't find her anywhere.
Thanks in advance

If you have purchased credits and viewed the census image on the 1911 census, you should be able to look at the Enumerator's Books etc. to see what the name is of the institution, or at least the address. If you don't have this then you are just guessing and making twice the work for yourself.

Once again DS a great big thank you! Poor little things - I wonder if they were ill with the same thing that took their father in 1910?
Tina - as I can't find Ivy anywhere else it's a possibility that she went to Australia. There was another Hazlehurst who went but I'll need to check dates. Maybe she stayed with him.
Thanks to both of you for helping to solve the mystery.
Roll on Anc** and the census which must not be named.

The Bluecoat Hospital was an orphanage although not all children had lost both parents. If you google it you will find plenty of information on it.
The Admissions registers aren't on film well they weren't a couple of years ago when I looked at them. I imagine they are at the Sandhills part of the RO and you would have to apply to have copies of the relevant imformation. I imagine there would be a charge.
Re your last sentence there is a choice have FMP not ANC!

I suppose there's nothing to say that they stayed in the Liverpool area even if they didn't emigrate.
There is a marriage for an Ivy Hazelhurst to Albert Short Q1 1924 Doncaster, Yorkshire 9c 1002 yet I don't see a birth for an Ivy Hazelhurst in Yorkshire. Could something like this be worth investigating?
PS There is an Ivy Hazlehurst age 5 living Sheffield in the 1911 census index which could be her.
