Me AGAIN
Can I just say Big THANKYOU to everyone who has been helping me and still is helping me, the musuem in liverpool city centre how does this work? do I just go in and ask for help in tracing my family? or do I telephone 1st? my dad went in a few years back and managed to find out that the mcgradys used to deliever alcohol by horse and cart around liverpool???

You dont have to make a appointment you can just turn up and if a machine is available you can book on to view the records. The staff dont help with your research they can show how to load the machines etc. Our Society run a help desk 1.30pm till 4pm Tuesdays. We are closed at the moment but we will be starting up again on 11th January 2011 at 1.30pm. If you want to come on that day one of our volunteers will be able to assist you and show you how to access the records that are available. Before you visit its always advisible to have a to do list.

I still think you should confirm the trail back by getting details of the marriage between William Mc and Susan(a) to make sure his father is Arthur Mc? Probably a general labourer by occupation. There might also be witnesses that you can identify as William's siblings or relatives.
I would get the cert before doing much more research, especially as pre 1869 it will involve Irish records.
Regarding the Calders, my dog-with-bone time has not thrown up any possible connection unless the Calders are related to the Connollys, Susan(a)'s family. Ten years after Edward is supposed to be a son-in-law with William, Isabella still maintains she is from Southport, and Edward is in the timber-carting business. That job is the only link so far. In 1901 they are definitely shown as being in the same address as the McGradys but the enumerator may have put them down in the wrong place.
Incidentally, your post of the 1911 find has 2 Connolly men listed as boarders. I wonder if they are related to Susan(a)? That marriage cert will give her father's name.

Speaking with my dad last night he told us when he was younger his mother catherine mcgrady had an argument with edward mcgrady and left with 3 kids joesph (my dad) mary and barbara and went to DERBY to see relatives who, from what my dad remembers they were arab or indian!!
Which is interesting because a lady helping me with research said the mcgradys may not be irish,she has found mcgradys living in bootle who trace back to INDIA!!

It would be worth your while getting the marriage cert to find out more details. Lancs BMD has the marriage as West Derby Reg office or Registrar attended, which could mean a catholic ceremony, I have looked for a possible marriage listed in the Liverpool Catholic marriages but it's not coming up, it could be a case that they married in St Alexander's in Bootle, but their records were destroyed in WW2, so no records are available to look-up in RO so the marriage cert would have to be ordered.

Toffeetower, you need to get the 1881 census page reference for the above statement and post it here. Given that the name can get mangled I could only find 2 William McReadys aged 5 =/- 3 years and both were born in Liverpool.
As Jan says, you must get that marriage cert before proceeding further. You might be jumping the wrong hurdle!

Just spoke with my aunty,the arab/indian link is through the wild side of our family,i mean thats the name their not wild people
so mcgrady could be irish then, because my aunty also said my nan catherine(nee wild)always sid that when my grandad edward mcgrady got angry she would say "thats the bloody irish temper in you that" hahahahaha
