John Lyon and Ann Marrow
John Lyon and Ann Marrow
John married Ann on 28th April 1816 at St. Mary's Church, Walton-on-the-Hill.
This entry appears in the Bishop's transcripts, microfilm 1468975, 1806-1834
Would anyone be able to send me a copy of the transcript for their marriage record?
Many thanks
Tony

Hello Tony and welcome to a great forum.
The reference you gave for the marriage is the CLDS Family Search reference and a 'look-up' as such isn't possible. You would have to order a copy of the film from the CLDS to be viewed at your nearest CLDS Family Search Centre. There is a strong possibility that the information given re the marriage is all that you would see on the film.
Unfortunately, the Lancashire Online Parish Clerks site http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ marriage records for St Mary's begin at 1818. However, according to their site the Liverpool Record Office holds marriage records for 1754 to 1980, Ref No: 283 SMW; Accession Nos: 4329 and 3729; Registers: Marriages 1754 - 1980.
The LRC itself is currently closed for renovations and access to records is somewhat restricted but a member on this forum might be able to help out with a look-up if you are not located in the Liverpool area.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I can't add much to the explanation Dickiesam has given above except to say that there will not be a great deal of additional information in either the Register or the BT's at that date, other than the possibility that Bacholor & Spinster might be mentioned and OTP (of this Parish).

All I'm after is perhaps some indication of his trade, or where he was from.
The surname Lyon does make me wonder, although this is not an uncommon name within the Liverpool area.
I do have my own microfilm reader, but have never been able to find out how to order a film from CLDS ....
Thanks for both of your responses

Hi Tony,
Do you have details of any children of John and Ann? If you do and we can find them in 1841 etc, the sons' trade will often be a pointer to the father's trade if he was a 'skilled' artisan.
Regarding ordering films from the CLDS, if memory serves me correctly, I recall a post earlier this year from a lady in Cork, Ireland, who enquired of the Cork Family Search Centre to see if she could order a film. The response was that the practice was being discontinued because all the information in the film archives was being transcribed into their 'new' FamilySearch website database at https://www.familysearch.org/

John had died by 1841, although Ann lived until at least past 1851.
The family were living at Shaws Brow in 1841 and 1851
My ancestor Joseph was a watchmaker, but I was really keen to see what it said at the time of their marriage.
I do know that my own local family history society has all films which relate to parish records for their county.
I had hoped that Liverpool FHS may have similar copies of the relevant parish records.
Does anyone have a contact number or e-mail address so that I can ask them.
It does seem overkill to buy a microfilm for just one entry ....

Hi,
With the information you have regarding the marriage I suggest you post a new thread specifically asking SKP for a look-up at the LRC which seems to be the only place where the relevant record is held. It would be helpful if you included Ref No: 283 SMW; Accession Nos: 4329 and 3729; Registers: Marriages 1754 - 1980 in the post.

The FHS won't hold a copy except perhaps for sale on CD, I'd have to check the catalogue to be sure of that.
The Record Office, as Dickiesam says is where these films are held however, this is undergoing major refurbishment at present http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9679 although many of our members are still able to access the temporary facilities currently held at the museum.
This seems to be a quiet time of year for visitors there, but I'm sure if anybody gets an opportunity they will do a look up for you.

I haven't seen a disc with the date of interest, sorry. Hoping somebody will help with look ups in the near future.
