Hello,
For those people who have previously assisted me in trying to trace the very elusive George A Grosart I have now finally managed to track him down. With excellent assistance he has finally been identified as George Alexander THOMPSON. The name Grosart was one he used for personal reasons. He died in Rhyl on 29 April 1966, aged 49, and is buried in a cemetry in Rhyl. He had resided in Winsor Road, Rhyl, and had been employed as a stage hand at the old Colliseum Theatre, Rhyl.
I am in the process of obtaining copis of the birth and death certs., however, if anyone else knows anything more about him I will appreciate it, even confidential matters. Thank you all once again for your inputs.

The very elusive George A Grosart
Hi Philip,
Oh yes I remember the very elusive George A Grosart and you have finally managed to find him! Brilliant! Must be quite an interesting story to be told at some stage for him to have been born Thompson but seems to have become a Grosart 'family member'.
And another interesting story too in how you managed to track him down?
Cheers,
Dickiesam

The story of him being traced must reflect great credit upon my cousin Sylvia. With her being in the local area where she resides she has been able to provide that 'hands on' touch which has given us all the boost to 'Carry On Digging'. I am now trying to find out if his mothers name was THOMPSON or HUGHES. Both names are recorded for the same year of birth in the Liverpool area. As they say 'Watch this space'.
George Alexander THOMPSON
Hi Philip,
In view of George's 'mysterious' name change I wonder if this is him. Apparently born to a single mother, was he fostered out and perhaps later adopted, even informally? This is the only George A birth in the Liverpool area in 1917. Does Thompson pop up anywhere in the family tree, cousins etc?
Births Jun 1917> Thompson, George A - [m/n Thompson] Liverpool - 8b - 127.

The name Thompson - with the letter P - is shown with my 'Uncle Andy', Andrew Thompson Grosart. I am totally satisfied that had nothing to do with it. The Thomson - without a P - appears way back in the lineage.
There is a name George Alexander Thompson with a mother named as Hughes, having been born in Toxteth Park during the early part of 1917. The 'favourite' mother named Thompson gave birth in a later part of the same year. Until I get the Birth Certs. I cannot really feel comfortable with the outcome. The problem, as you all very well know, will quite probably not end there. However I may have to decide whether to dig deeper. I haven't really started on my Dad's side. With the name Roberts originating from Bangor I feel confident that I am going to 'have fun!!'

George A Thompson birth
Good luck with the 'Roberts from Bangor'!
I couldn't find another 1917 George A Thompson birth in Lancashire but spread the search a little wider and found the maiden name Hughes one in 1918. I suppose it could have been a late registration.
THOMPSON, George A - Toxteth Park - 1918 - Mar qtr - Mother's maiden name: Hughes - Volume: 8B - Page: 154.
