Thanks for your help. I thought it was Butcher's something. I was also wondering if anyone can help me find Michael Mcdonough on a census. He was born around 1853 I believe but I can't find him. I only seem to be able to find michael mcdonough who was a labourer.

Thanks again,

writing on Marriage Cert

Definitely Butcher's porter. Would have been skilled at carrying sides of beef, possibly frozen, on his shoulder all day! My dad did just that in the 1930s at Stanley Abbatoir! I didn't have a dummy to suck or a teething ring, just a lump of fillet steak!

I've just come across this:
http://forums.dailypost.co.uk/viewtopic ... 7&t=124751

Could it be that he worked as a Butcher's Porter on the docks? It's a possibility. I'm sure one of his census records said dock labourer. So perhaps a butcher's porter was classed as a dock labourer if they worked around the docks.

:(

I checked the address from marriage cert on the 1901 (on cd) but there was no McDonough living at 21 Blackfield Street.

Will have a look and see if I can find anything.

Thomas McDonough and Mary Ann Grayson were living on back bond street street in 1901 with their 6month old daughter elizabeth Mcdonough. I'm not sure about Michael Mcdonough. I do know that his wife was called Ellen.

Thanks for your help. I think I've found them. I think Michael McDonough married an Ellen Stevens and that Michael McDonough's father was John McDonough. I also believe that a butchers porter could also be classed as a dock labourer if he worked on the docks.
