Louisa Johnson & Thomas park
Hi
Now here is another tough one!
Thomas Park (my grandfather) married Louisa Johnson (widow) on the 27th July 1920. Address for both at the time was 20 Westbourne St, Liverpool.
They married in the reg office
Louisa was 26 years old (so DOB 1893-1984)
Her father was listed as Albert Edward Johnson (Wool Worker).
So the question is ;
Is Johnson her maiden name, or her 1st married name?
Her father is stated as Albert Edward Johnson, so is that an error or not.
I found a Louisa Farrell marryng a Johnson, but if you trace that line that would make her fathers name as John Joseph Farrell which cant be right?
any ideas team?
I can find some Johnsons, so maybe that is the way I should go?
any help would be good
Thanks
Dennis Park

Hi Denis,
There appears to have been two births to a Johnson/Park marriage:
Births Mar 1921: Park, John W - Johnson - W.Derby - 8b - 992.
Births Mar 1928: Park, Victor C - Johnson - W.Derby - 8b - 1060.
Assuming these are Louisa's children, if you get the birth cert for one of them and she is a widow, Column 5 on the cert should show something like Mother: Louisa Park, late Johnson, formerly XXX [where XXX is her maiden name].
Based on the surname of her father, if it doesn't have that wording I suspect Louisa had reverted from her married name to her maiden name of Johnson. There is also the remote possibility that she might be a Johnson who married a Johnson. I've come across that sort of same-surname marriage before.
For the crew...
Oddly I couldn't find the marriage on FreeBMD so looked elsewhere:
Marriage Sep qtr 1920: Thomas Park and Louisa Johnson - West Derby - 8B - 1348.
EDITED:
1) Are you sure her father's occupation was WOOL worker and not perhaps WOOD worker?
2) Can you post the names of the witnesses on the marriage cert?

Hi
From the Johnson/Park marriage there were maybe four children (I think) - John William Park (my dad), Victor C Park, Thomas Park & XX Park?
from my dads birth cert, column 5 says : Louisa Park formerly Johnson.
The date of the marriage is correct , and I have the cert for that as well.
The occupation of Albert Edward Johnson on the marriage cert is : Wool worker (the writing is clear).
The witnesses are : Wm W Lockley & Helena Wand (or Island?).
Regards

Hi Dennis,
Where does the knowledge about the children Thomas Park & XX Park come from? The only births Park nee Johnson in Lancashire between 1920 and 1945 are John and Victor. There are 14 others outside the county but they don't include a Thomas.
Is it possible that Thomas and XX are Louisa's children from her previous 'marriage'? Any idea of their ages? Older or younger than your father, John? If Thomas and XX are her children, it is possible they were illegitimate and Louisa said she was widowed to conceal that fact.
FreeBMD shows 5 Thomas Johnson nee Johnson births between 1911 and 1920 in Lancashire. Did Thomas have a middle initial?

Hi
One of the sons of Thomas & Louisa Park (nee Johnson) was Thomas E Park (in 1964 he lived at 276 Breck road, L5 ) and had a Newsagents there. He married Vera X?
He is my Uncle (Dads brother) & I remember him from my young days. I believe that there was another brother (wife Margaret) but my memory fails me on that one.
But back to Louisa Park (nee Johnson nee?) & her dad Albert Edward Johnson.
If that is her maiden name then I would like to trace that line back.
Regards

Hi
Yes her age on her wedding cert is different to her age on her death cert.
I just spotted that. oops!
I wonder is this now allows the line to be followed backwards
I guess we will never know to whom (or if) she was married too before Thomas Park

Hi Dennis,
Strange.. The only Louisa Johnson in the 1901 census, all counties, who was born in Liverpool 1892 +/- 3 years and enumerated without a named father [all the other fathers had names other than Albert] is this one:
JOHNSON, Louisa - Patient - 11 - 1890 - School Girl - Liverpool.
Address: Stanley Hospital, Stanley Road, Kirkdale, Liverpool.
RG13 / Piece: 3472 / Folio:227 / Page:6.
Marriage: Thomas E Park married Vera W Fisher.
Registration District: Liverpool North; Year/Qtr of Registration: 1953/Dec
Volume No: 10D; Page No: 268.
Because I can't see [my eyes are dim etc...
] a birth for Thomas E in the Index I think you should get the marriage cert and check his age, father, etc. There are a couple of Thomas Johnson/Johnson births before 1920 in the Lancs area. One of them might be him.

I think you need to concentrate on solving the mystery of her two other children because I have also searched for them like D.S and I cant find any record of their birth registration. Have you looked to see if a obituary was published for Louisa may mention other members of her family, also where is she buried? she may be in a family plot with other relatives.

William W Lockley!
Re weird or what!
Check out 1901 RG13 / Piece:3417 / Folio:46 / Page:30.
I was just musing on that witness William W Lockley and found him in the 1901. His father is Edward [sound familiar?]; he has a sister Louisa bn about 1993; he has a brother Albert Victor [Familiar? Louisa named one of her sons Victor and says her father is Albert Edward].
Checked again a whole decade later and the family are still at home.
