Hi tina.

I think it is bootle or kirkdale or west derby

Some other lady done a 1901 lookup for me it sounds right what do you think .

james gribbin 45

catherine 35

catherine 15

joseph E 13

mary F 10

elizabeth 5

And she siad james died 1902

So where did alice fit in she must have been born before 1901.

let me know what you think it sounds spot on .

kind regards bernie.

My apologies Bernie, it was already mentioned Cross St was in Bootle.
There are no births listed for Alice aka Alison Gribbin between 1899 and 1902.
Lancs BMD have a marrige for a Mary F Gribbin in 1911 to William Beagan.
West Derby RO or registrar attended (could be an RC church)
Free BMD have the marriage in Sept 1911.
Mary F should be in 1911 census somewhere.
I expect Gribbin surname has been mis-transcribed.

The census that you have may well be correct but I'd hesitate to find an Alice fitting in. I just can't imagine a man having his sister's name tattoo on his person, maybe his mum, but far more likely another girlfriend.

Neither can I! Think of the stick he'd get from his mates!.

"Whose this?"
"Your sister!"
"Pull the other it's got bells on it!"

Ally?

Post by dickiesam »

Hi folks,
Wondering if this fits:
Births Mar 1904> Gribbin, Alice - W. Derby - 8b - 557.

If not immediate family, is she a favourite niece? Bernie, you need to check the 1911 to find her parents for a possible connection.

And just a thought.. Tina gave me the idea! James G was on HMS Anson [1st Class Battleship] in 1901, based in Portland, Dorsetshire. Was the crew's 'familiar' name for that vessel the Ally? I think she was named after Admiral Anson, the Royal Navy circumnavigator of the world, and eventual First Lord of the Admiralty.
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Ans ... aron_Anson

I do remember a little ditty about 'The big ship Ally Ally O, Ally Ally O'? A skipping song? And yes girls, I could skip!
