I'm sorry we have not come up with any conclusive answers, I'm assuming that you have checked Holland for the marriage, as it doesn't appear to have taken place in England.

That reference and details that Simone gave are for the 1851 census.
It's certainly possible that they didn't marry especially if he was headed out of the country and asked her to go with him .... sounds quite romantic!
