Post by jwalker85@hotmail.com »

Would any of our kind members please tell me the location of MOON St in Birkenhead. There was a bombing on three houses on 20th Dec 1940.

Unfortunately I just cant find out were it was located!

Kindly, Joe in Texas

I found Moon Street in the 1901 census and then looked for the next street which was Bentick Street. This street still exists (it's in my map book) so it should show on google maps. I would imagine Moon Street and there was a Sun Street would have been very near Bentick Street there is definitely a space on the map.

Wirral Archives might be able to help they are different to Wirral Library Service.

Joe
Moon Street shows up in a 1930s street map: between Bentinck St and Exmouth St, which both ran from Conway Street to Claughton Road. It was quite short.compared with the next along, Sun St.

:( :?

Joe,

I made an enquiry to Wirral libraries http://www.wirral-libraries.net/service ... -reference

They were not at all helpful!!

I also looked in 1938 directory and only one resident listed for Moon St Birkenhead.

Just to clarify - my suggestion was to Wirral ARCHIVES who are completely different to Wirral Libraries

However it appears that the problem has been solved

I had a reply from the Wirral Lib. Thanks to your suggestion.
There were others of the Hughes Family at the 18 Moon St but only George Hughes was the only one killed. All your efforts are appreciated!
Thanks Joe in Tx
