Alien Records WW1 Liverpool

Post by Wallaby »

Hi

My grandfather was classed as an alien during the first world war & I know he was issued with his identity card in Liverpool where he lived.
I have his ID number & the date it was issued. Would the police hold any such records in their archives ?

I have enquired at the Liverpool Records Office & they suggested I try the National Archives at Kew,

So I've gone around in a circle.

Any advice would be appreciated,

I have not come across any Alien records at the record office, but I have seen some reports in the local papers regardng aliens. You could try getting in touch with the archivist for the police records at Canning Place Liverpool.
Have you tried searching the catalogue at the National Archives to see if his names is listed. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue

There is a vast amount of records at Kew under ref HO regarding this subject and the staff may not know what are in some of these records so if I am told you wont find anything in there I always consult them anyway to see what is recorded.

Hi Wallaby,
Not sure if this link will help, not sure what you are trying to find, i came across my wifes great grandfather on this link and a couple of years later there was an announcment put in the times about his naturalization, not sure if you can still search the Times site for free.
