Got it from Ancestry.. he was born Liverpool c 1856..don't know if he is definitely yours though just though it was a maybe as I believe a Waterman is something to do with boats and maybe this led him to being a sailor of sorts
Have just found in 1891 there is a James Cain b c 1858 a Seas Sailor, boarding with the Marsh family. He could be the one on the 1881
RG12; Piece: 2988; Folio 71; Page
However he has a wife Sarah Jane so not yours

Hi Simone , I don't know who James father is although Meeg says that James died in 1924 in Australia. Maybe she has the death record that might have his parents. I'll explore that with her as I have sent a PM to her or maybe she'll post it here. I'll see if I can find something on the NSW records in Australia.
It is difficult with so many name variation as you say. I'm running into the same problem researching Wargent from Herefordshire area. So many different variations.
So pleased for you Frank meeting another member of your tree right here in the forum, great stuff
The marriage I found is the right one..
Maybe ask Mary's advice about a look up when some kind person is going to Lpool Rego Office?
You have the church details, should give details of parents.A waterman usually worked barges up and down the canals & sometimes took people over to the other side of the Mersey.
Not known for going "deep sea"..

Mary McCourt to James CAIN (Lancs BMD)
Lpool R.O or registrar attended
Lpool RC marriages have him as KAIN
St Mary's Highgate.
Is this the one you mean Tina?
Perhaps Frank would like to tag a request with that information onto the end of yours? http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9550 then if anybody is going they won't have to search too many request posts to find them all.
I don't know when anybody is going, you might have a while to wait and may prefer to ask Liverpool History Projects for a copy of the register, it's not as expensive as using the GRO.

Just a little correction it's St Mary's RC church, Highfield Street. It makes sense for the marriage to be there if family members are in Denison Street around that time and are RC. My Holland people were all baptised at St Mary's when they lived in Denison Street.
Yes, it is nice to make a connection thru this post, and Meeg and I have been in touch. She and my wife are definetely family. Meeg says James Keane died in 1924 in Australia and his parents were Patrick and Ellen.
9412/1924 KEANE JAMES PATRICK ELLEN MANLY (Manly I assume is a suburb of Sydney).
If anyone can find any information on Patrick Keane and Ellen ?

A couple of points about your post above - firstly I might be a bit dim, but what does 9412/1924 mean?
Then you are now looking for information on two people without any information at all. Please take things step by step and see if the marriage we have for James and Mary is correct, IF his father is noted as Patrick then we will know that the two details are linked.
How does Meeg have the information about his parents? If from a marriage or death certificate perhaps you could give details, especially if from a marriage certificate as this might give Patrick's occupation to help in the search.
We await details from James and Mary's marriage certificate, advice given above on how to obtain this.

Not come across a Keane in my Forshaws - so far! although there must be a lot of them I still need to work on since the marriage of Hannah Forshaw to Richard Lunt was way back in 1805.
If I do come across a Keane, I'll get back in touch with you.

Sorry Mary about trying to skip ahead too fast. You are absolutely right about going one step at the time. I do jump around at times in my searches.
Thanks Meeg for clarifying that entry about Patrick.
My wife (Truda) has been doing our family research and came across your enquiry. My name is Clive Keane (known as Chris) and the John Keane you want information about was my grandfather. My Dad was John James Patrick Keane and was the son of the above. He had one sister by the name of May. Her children would be my cousins. From memory she had three girls and they were Jean, Heather and Rae MacRae. I'm not sure of the correct spelling of the surname or their ages.
I can give you more information privately if that is what you would like.
Great to find you!! Truda has been trying to find info re James and Mary Keane's marriage, so the info posted by all who have replied is good!
It's great when new relatives manage to make contact.
You are right not to post details of living people, private these days is important.
Good luck with your research.

Hello Clive, great to hear from you. You are definetely my wife's family. Your father had a sister named Agnes May and she married John (Jock) Macrae in Sydney. They had 3 daughters, as you mentioned. Heather (the oldest) is my mother-in-law as I married her daughter Lesley. You would be 1st cousin to Heather. I also have much information I wish to share so I'll send you a private message which will include my e-mail address, we can then get in contact that way.
My wife is really excited to get in touch with you and your family.
