A few weeks ago I was given advice to contact a Roger Hull re Liverpool Orphanages. I was particularly interested in a C of E orphanage in Woolton. I e mailed Roger Hull I have not had a reply. Is anyone aware of a problem with this contact.
The dates were 1915-1919.
Is there anyone other than Mr Hull who may reply to my request.
Hello Marie,
From memory Roger Hull is a Researcher at the LRO. At the present time the LRO itself is closed for major refurbishment and building works, and a lot of it's 'functions' are scattered at a number of locations. See http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=9679 This
could be the reason for the delayed response.
Roger Hull was extremely helpful to me a couple of years back and I am sure someone here will know if he is still there.
What did you want to know about the Woolton Orphanage? Lots of folk here know lots of stuff and probably someone will know a lot about Woolton.

Due to the enormous amount of work involved in moving all the archives to their temporary homes I am not surprised you have not yet had a response. Katie's latest update indicates that the archives will be available again towards the end of October so you would be unable to look at anything until then anyway.
I would suggest you try to find out exactly which orphanage you are interested in and then search the Liverpool Record Office on line catalogue so you will be ready for when the archives reopen. The record office produces a number of leaflets about their holdings and there is one about orphanages. You could contact the part of the record office at the world museum and asked them to post you one or call in and collect one.
If the record office holds records of the orphanage you want they are likely to have a 100 years closure on them.
Roger is at present very busy, they are hoping to start up the research service soon. I will let you know. As mentioned in the update on the Liverpool forum the service at Sandhills will not be available till at least the end of October
Thanks for the information. I am not exactly sure which orphanage. I have just traced a cousin who says her father was in the orphanage at Woolton and she was taken by him as a child to visit. My father was also there. I would like to know what happened to him when he left. My cousin's father was placed in employment in a live in capacity. My dad was never in touch with his siblings although they were all together.
To avoid confusion might be best to close this one and continue the quest for info via the original as above, now you understand why Roger Hull has not been able to respond?
