I have been trying to find, what happened to my G. G . Mother Mary Donoghue ( Allen ) and her Three younger Sons all born in Liverpool , John ( 1890 ) Michael ( 1892 ) and Patrick ( 1895 ) .
They all show on the 1901 census living at 8 in 1 Laxey Street , Liverpool 8 but then appear to vanish from the area .
I know my Grand-Dad Dennis the oldest of the Sons ( 1888 ) died in 1930 and my G.G. Dad John died in 1902 at Smithdown Road Workhouse .
Dioes anyone have any details , did Mary Re-Marry ?
Can anyone help.
Regards

Hello Tony,
You mentioned your g.father as being Dennis Donoughue. Would this be his family in 1891? The name on the census page is actually Donoughe. Address: 14 Clive Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool. RG12 / Piece:2930 / Folio:127 / Page:29
I am assuming this is his father's death? Deaths Jun 1902> Donaghue, John - 46 - Toxteth Park - 8b - 191.
He would have died in the Infirmary attached to the Workhouse. The workhouse infirmaries were the NHS of the day; the only hospitals the poor and average working class could go if they were ill.
Looked for a marriage for John and Mary pre-1888 to trace her maiden name, in case she remarried after 1902 and used her maiden name. Found only this one:
Marriages Jun 1887> Cammick, Mary Ann & Donoghue, John - Liverpool - 8b - 338. If you have any of the children's birth certs would you confirm if this is the right marriage?
Found a couple of Mary Donoghue possible marriages on FreeBMD but none checked out 1910-12ish. It is possible she and the children moved to another county. Where was Dennis in 1911?

Hi D.S
Good find in 1891.
John is listed as 40 but we know what the Irish were like for their ages
Mary 23.
Do you think John could be buried in Tox Park Cem?

Tony, in Anc@@ someone has made corrections to census listings.
Just thought I'd let you know.
D.S they could be in census 1910-1912 with a mangled surname..
eg Donoughe and poor Dennis as Denise

John and Mary Donoghue
Thanks for all replies Marys Maiden name was Allen ,she shows up on the 1871 Liverepool Census with her Father Dennis and Sister Cathrine but no Mother all originally from County Clare Ireland .
John and Mary plus children , John Junior , Michael and Patrick all show on the 1901 census as living in Laxey Street , Toxteth . I unfortunately currently do not access to the 1911 census .
I have checked all records for Johns burial without success ,I assume he had a paupers burial , all I do know is his surname on both copies of Marriage /Death Certificates are spelt incorrectly DONAGHUE should be DONOGHUE but thats not unusual .
Regards

It might be helpful if you could list all the burial records you have searched or had searched for you. That way it may be possible for someone to suggest a cemetery that has been overlooked. Even if it was a pauper's burial it would have still been recorded.
You can search the free index of the 1911 census on www.1911census.org.uk If you find someone you will have to purchase your own credits either there or on www.findmypast.co.uk Look ups are not possible.
The surname could be spelt in may ways which will add to to the problem.

John and Mary Donoghue
John and Mary married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church , Toxteth in Liverpool in 1885 . Johns Dad Patrick ( Blacksmith ) then deceased , best man a Geoffrey Sheridan .
Dennis my Grand-Dad the eldest son was "brought up " by his Aunt , Marys Sister Margaret Duckworth in Park Street , Toxteth .He died aged 42 when my Dad was aged 9 .
I have only checked the Toxteth Park Burial Records relating to John , but no joy .
