Annie Lewis b1888/9 Liverpool
Annie Lewis b1888/9 Liverpool
I have the marriage certificate for my GGM Annie Lewis who married Arthur Smith on 1st August 1910 at West Derby Register Office. The certificate names "John Lewis Joiner Journeyman" as her father. They lived at 22 Solon(?) Street, West Derby.
But I can't find her on the 1901 or 1891 census, so I can't find her birth details. She was said to have sisters Lilly and Ethel and brothers.
Doea anyone know anything about this Lewis family?

I'm wondering if this could be the family in 1901

If it was the right family Annie is listed as Alice if you see what I mean. I wonder if she was Alice Annie or Annie Alice? Just an idea

Hi Tina,
Wasn't sure about that family you found being the right one..
RG12/3000/111/4 unless he changed trades. Mine has:
LEWIS, John Alfred - Head - 37 - 1854 - Grocer .
LEWIS, Jane - Wife - 35 - 1856 - Cheshire.
Then I checked the actual page and found 2 transcription errors; trade and place. Both reported.
So well done. You are hardly back and you are immediately on track!

Gobsmacked!
Tina, it's no wonder I couldn't find this family! I've been searching for years. I also have to say that I struggled to find the entry on Ancestry.co.uk to start with as I couldn't search just off the folio number. So how did you do that? Incorrectly transcribed name and occupation. Is there a fuzzy search option or do you just have a knack? I'd love to know. Thanks for the help, it's about the last brick wall that I had to break through.
So pleased to have been of help
Thanks to Italian blood, my nose is just that bit longer

When searching on Ancestry if you have been given the reference, scroll down to the bottom of the boxes, leaving the name and places empty, you will see the boxes where you should enter the reference numbers. If you leave the names blank you will get a list of everybody who is on that page.

Lewis - Solon Street
Hi,
I have just seen this post now and joined so I can answer and hopefully get some info off you. I have my great uncles marriage certificate 1934 and his wife's name was Dorothy Elizabeth Lewis father named as Arthur Lewis and he was a railway clerk (deceased) and they lived in 5 Solon Street Liverpool she became Dorothy Brew and they had 3 children Brian Brew born 1934 (honeymoon baby?!) died 2004. Do you think that they are the same family of Lewis's given this info about the father?

Hi emribena,
I don't know if they are related yet as I haven't been able to do much digging. It's possible, although I'm sure that there were lots of Lewis' about. I know that there were no Dorothy, ELizabeth or Arthur in the bit of the family that I'm researching at the moment.

Hi Hilary,
You had the same family in 1881 and 1901 but as neither mentions Annie, I didn't think it was the right one. It's only when you see Annie in 1891 with all the other people (especially as the 1891 address for Servis is the same as 1901 for Lewis), do you get confidence that they're actually the same people.
By the way, I didn't mention but Annie's daughter-in-law (my GM) who died a few weeks ago, told me that Annie told her that she was really Annie Clara. That's what makes the 1891 fnd by Tina just amazing. I didn't mention Clara in the original post because I have no evidence from Marriage Certificates etc to say that it was the case.
So thanks all, from one chuffed amateur genealogist.
