Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to find out where my mum lived in the 30's.
I think it may have been Brasenose Rd but not sure.
I know some on here have various directories for the 30's so I'm hoping someone can help.
Head of household could have been Davies or Black as my gt grandfather Robert Joseph Davies may have been head or his wife Margaret nee Weston. I believe a number of Davies ancestors were living together in a big house on Brasenose Rd before the house was bombed when they then moved to Ceres St.
My mum was Mary E Black b.1930. Her father was Joseph Francis Black.
Best wishes,
Tracey.

Hi Tracey,
The street directories you refer to only give the head of household or main occupier. Other family members or occupiers are not indicated. You may get lucky with the Davies or Black names but you really need access to the Electoral Rolls for the period. These would contain the names of all people at an address who were entitled to vote.
I believe these would be in the LRO so difficult to access at the moment due to the LRO being temporarily closed. You will see the topmost post in the Announcements in the Forum Index which is continuously updated about the closure and when and where records may be available in the meantime.
If you have your mother's birth certificate that will have a 'home' address on it. Is that in Brasenose Road?

Hi Scully,
Looks like Tina scored a hit for you. The head of household Margaret Davies is probably the widow of this Robert J Davies..
Deaths Jun 1930 > Davies, Robert J - [76] - Liverpool - 8b - 159.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for the info, it's appreciated.
I don't think the Margaret Davies mentioned is mine. Margaret & Robert Davies were my gt grandparents & Robert died in 1968.
I'm making an effort to buy some certs for more info but my mum's last living sibling told me my mum was living at Hema?/Herma?/Ema? Terrace, not sure of the name but I do know mum was born in Seaforth.
Thank you for the Bankier info, I had scabs on my eyes trying to locate them in 1881.
I will look into the Jessie Bankier name, maybe she's one of mine.
I'm still not sure if Agnes' father was Alexander Bankier as I'm sure when I looked on the microfiche a few years ago at Agnes' marriage details that it said her father was Alexander Murray (could be wrong, I have been many times)
I lost a lot of info on my laptop when it overheated & gave up the ghost last year!
Thank you all again.
Best wishes,
Tracey.

Hi Scully,
Sorry that Margaret Davies doesn't appear to be yours. In fact the Robert J death I found may not be related to that Davies at all without seeing the death cert.
Since you know your g.father died in 1968, do you know if his wife Margaret had an 'occupation' besides being his spouse in her younger pre-retirement days? If she was a midwife, she may have been the 'boss' in the household at #84. And did she have a middle name Ellen?

A hard lesson learned I hope? Backup, backup and backup again! I burn my PAF data to a CD about every 6 months and backup the data to a flash drive every time I make a change or add to it. A 1 Gb flash drive is very cheap and would be quite adequate in size for all PAF data files. I actually use a 64 Mb drive [a lot smaller] for 5 trees, around 600 families and 1,750 people.I lost a lot of info on my laptop when it overheated & gave up the ghost last year!

Thanks for the info Mary, will look out for that.
Hi Dickiesam,
Margaret didn't have an occupation as far as I know or a middle name & from what I remember my gt grandfather was very much the boss!!
Seriously, I think in the 30's my gt grandfather was a Stevedore & if memory serves me right, from family info, I believe there were a number of the Davies clan in Brasenose Rd. My gt uncle Hugh Davies lived with his parents at this time & my mum & her parents, Joseph & Violet nee Davies, Black.
I'll see if I can trace the Herma/Hema/Ema Terrace add.
Thank you again & I will certainly back up all info, Mary A had told me this also. Definitely a lesson learnt!
Best wishes,
Tracey.
