Post by June Bibby »

I am researching into the life of William Gould, Gardener at Lathom House, also his illegitimate daughter (Elizabeth) born to Jane Worthington.
The relationship of William Gould Tilsley also his sister Elizabeth, who married Baron de Micas ? when.
William Gould Tilsley was born 1800 and died 1868, leaving money to his nephew and neices.

Dear Tina, How wonderful, you are the first person to find the above name. It was the last thing I expected to find, when I read William Gould Tilsley's will; a Baron in the family. Where and when the marriage took place, I do not know. When WGT died in 1868 his sister Elizabeth was alread deceased. Where do these people disappear to? Do you know any more about Lucien? Best wishes June Bibby. I am new to Genealogy on computers, so only hope I press the right buttons!!

Baron de Micas etc.

Dear Mary, I do not know anything about the abov e, except that they were all mentioned in William Gould Tilsleys will! William Gould 1735-1812 lived and worked in Russia from 1776 but I do not know what relation William Gould Tilsley is to him; they are buried in the same grave! Best Wishes June Bibby

I'm wondering where there might be any record of burials/marriages/baptisms etc. but to be honest I have no idea where to start looking.

Do you know where "Lathom House" that you mention is?
Do you know what grave and what cemetery they are buried in?
Do you know where William Gould Tilsley was born in 1800?
Do you know where he died in 1868?
Is the William G Tilsley, as mentioned in the 1861 census (and uncle to Elizabeth in 1851) father to the William Tilsley who is cousin? to Elizabeth who married the Baron?

Hi, All,
Lathom House is situated on Hall Lane, Lathom, nr.Ormskirk
It was the country estate of the Stanley Family, The Earls of Derby, During the English civil war it was the site of a very famous battle. When Lord Derbys wife Margaret, kept the Roundhead army at bay for about sixteen months,The Cavalier inhabitants only surrendered when they ran out of food,
Lady Margarets husband was captured, and beheaded, his body is interred at Ormskirk Parish Church vaults, it is said to be in two separate caskets..
The estate has its own Church and about a dozen Alms houses but the original house is long gone,
there is quite a lot literature in Libraries about the siege and the house and family.
regards John Stanley ( I don't think we are related but then who knows?????)

William Gould the gardener left a will. You will be able to see it at Lancashire Record Office Preston. That may solve the connection.
