1851 Census

Post by Griseli »

Does anybody have access to the 1851 census? I'm looking for the household of Theophilus GOLDRING who would have been aged 7 at the time - trying to find out who was listed on the census with him - it would be Bristol, Gloucestershire at that time. Not sure how he ended up in Liverpool.
Thank you.

Just in case you don't know - if you are in the UK most public libraries have free acces to the Ancestry Library Collection and there you can see the census from 1841 to 1901.

Hi Griseli,
I notice that one of the names you are interested in is Grisenthwaite. Any link to John Grisenthwaite who married Margaret Woolfall, daughter of John Woolfall and Ruth Walley? Joh was my 3 x gt Uncle.

Hi Lis

This is a bit weird I thought the surname Goldring or Godring was familiar. A while back I was doing my Harvey line and got a few generations wrong. I followed the wrong line back to Scotland via Bristol.

On the 1861 Census for these Harveys there is the following:-

82 Mann Street, Toxteth Park, Liverpool

Harvey, William, Head, Married, M, 37, 1824, Rigger, Greenock Scotland
Harvey, Mary, Wife, Married, F, 30, 1831, Carmarthen
Harvey, Richard, Son, Unmarried, M, 9, 1852, Bristol
Harvey, Catherine, Daughter, Unmarried, F, 4, 1857, Liverpool
Godring, Theophelus, Nephew, Unmarried, M, 18, 1843, Sailor, Bristol
Georgeson, Joseph, Boarder, Unmarried, M, 23, 1838, Sailor, Shetland

The original transcript actually looks like Goldring but the l is merged with the d so it's been listed as Godring on the site where I got the record.

Grisenthwaite

Yes, this is one of my relatives - basically ALL Grisenthwaites are linked in one way or another! I have this side of the family back to 1575 and have now started the work on my mothers side - Goldring/Ballard - it's amazing what you find out!!!!
best wishes
Lis.
