Hi
I am trying to find a marriage between Peter Mc Mahon and wife Ann
I have Peter and Ann's daughter Ellens marriage certificate-St Nicholas in 1877
Both bride and groom resided in Circus Street
Peter McMahon is a Porter
I have his wife Ann on census returns living at Circus Street in 1871 and it states that she is a widow but it does not say Peter is deceased on Ellens marriage certificate
She is living with her son and his family in 1881
Ann was born in Ireland so I do not know if the marriage took place there
I have placed this post on another forum
Thankyou
Lorraine

Unless the question is specifically asked, and answered, the registrar wouldn't know if the father was deceased and so wouldn't enter that information.

with no clues as to Ellen's husband's name, Ellen's age, or witnesses.

I don't believe we could begin to start looking for a marriage between Peter McMahon and Ann until we knew the details of the children - generally speaking a search would commence a few years before the first was born. We also have no idea of the year Ann was born in order to be able to take a guess.

Ellen's birth certificate would provide you with Ann's surname - if she is Ellen's mother, and that will assist in finding the marriage.

Mc Mahon

Hi Mary

Ellens husband was John Francis Stoneley born salford Manchester in 1857 to Samuel Stonley and Jane Hayhurst, I have his birth certificate
Peter her Father was a Porter his wife Anne's birth on the 1871 census is aged 50 and born in Ireland
The witnesses are James Mc Mahon and Mary M Mc Mahon-Ellen had a brother James on the 1871 census but there is no Margarte so this could be James's wife?
John Francis's age is full and Ellens is minor and I am aware that this could range from aged 12 to 20.
I cannot find the family of McMahon before Ellen got married except for the 1871 census

Please provide the reference for the 1871 census to help identify "your" McMahons.

Also we would be grateful for the link to the other forum who is providing you with assistance, as I am sure you wouldn't like us to duplicate their efforts.

Mary
I would appreciate it if you did not send me private messages regarding the use of "capital letters" as well as any other issues you may have with my posts
Although I recently gained a degree I am a novice at Family Trees, how to research and FORUMS
I also do not know how to pst a link or any other things that you keep reminding me to do
I am not asking people to research for me I am merely asking for advice and dread when I see your name
I am just glad that none of my family and friends are not trying to use this Site as they are less knowledgeable than I am which is why I am helping them
I try to give as much information as I can
I have access to Ancestry myself and Find my Past and I am happy to search for other people
Once again I think you should understand that not everyone is as knowledgeable as yourself and it is deterring peoiple from using this site which is why we use the other one

Regards

It is very easy Lorraine and I know that is sometimes upsetting when you use a new site. thing go a little differently here, we are more like one big family helping each other out along the way. we get chatty and a little goofy with the research at times, but no harm is ever meant by it.
when making a post for information it is best to give all that you have/know years, places, ages etc it helps us get a time line that we cannot see in your computer. check out our useful sites page you can get the web addresses of many places. Lancashire online parish clerks site and lanc's BMD site too, as you travel down this all consuming road of genealogical research you will find any help, no matter how small, a blessing. I've been doing this for almost 40 years and still bang my head on the wall over some of them (ancestors) that or I could not find them for the forest so to speak, an extra pair of eyes is always useful.

I'm sorry you feel that way, I and all of our forum and Society members try to do our best for those who ask for assistance here, however, we are unable to do so without full information and should not be asked to waste their time duplicating research.

Please also take a moment to read our Administrator's post http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=6643

:) :) Hi Folks

I just want to say how much pleasure I get reading the posts and the trouble you all go to help people grappling with their family history. I have noticed that a few expect a lot of help whilst supplying little information and one post I have just read seemed to me to be quite abusive.

I would add that I am a member of this Society and also one in London and suggest that if non members think they are "short changed" here they should have a look at www.eolfhs.org.uk. To find the forum click on "Message Board".

All I can add is keep up the good work you are all doing a brilliant job.

Best regards to all

Yappie

I do not think you have the right to comment when you have not read the quite rude private emails that were sent to myself regarding my posts
That is why I HAD THE GOOD MANNERS AND DECENCY TO REPLY IN PUBLIC AND NOT BEHIND THE SCENES
It is a shame that people no longer use this site because they are questioned privately in matters that have nothing to do with research
To add I was in fact advised to use other Forum sites to help with my research from more understanding researches!!!
Just because I am not as able as others in mastering the Art of Family Research and using a computer that does not give people the right to give their own personal feelings privately
