I have a quick question.
I've found my ancestor's name on a passenger list for a ship leaving Liverpool for Alexandria, Virginia in 1829.
Name: Peter
Race: Caucasian
Age: 26
Martial status: Single
Occupation: Mason
I understand all the information except for one bit that says "Master: A.M. Rose".
Can anyone tell me why it's on the passenger's list and what it means?
Help reading 1800s Atlantic Passenger's list?
Isn't that the Captain of the ship?

Master?
A. M. Rose was the Master [Captain] of the vessel, for definite. See the movie 'Master and Commander' with Russell Crowe... And here:Laursf wrote:I figured it would be something so simple. haha.MaryA wrote:Isn't that the Captain of the ship?
I'm guessing it might be.
