Hi Doedoe, thanks for your reply. The name I'm looking for is Edward TOHER as transcribed from a marriage cert. On the cert itself it could be Tohen, Token etc.,

I've gone down the usual avenues so a fresh pair of eyes or brains may help! Hope so !

Assuming you are looking for him earlier than the marriage - can you give the usual details from the cert - occupation, father's name and occupation, whether it states deceased, witnesses etc.

Unfortunately I don't see anybody with a directory close to the date you are looking for http://liverpool-genealogy.org.uk/phpBB ... php?t=6906

Hi MaryA and Doedoe - Edward Tohler(?) is the witness to Henry Aspinall. The Marr Cert I have is the Latin version and doesnt show any occupations but I suspect Henry to have been a stoker and if I have the correct Henry then he died at Greenwich Seamens Hospital 8 mths after marrying my Gt Grandmother (she remarried in 1892)

My plan was to confirm I had the correct Henry and as there is quite a few of them I had the idea of connecting him to Edward, hoping he too was a seaman. I'm assuming the records held at Liverpool will have all the details of the groom on the marr. cert. I may have to ask for a 'look up' !! Thanks MaryA for jogging my memory!

Your link to Filipinohomes was really interesting Doedoe, the things you learn with this hobby is amazing! My Mum would have been fascinated to know that Upper Frederick St was home to so many Filipinos as she herself was born there in 1920!!

Thank you both very much for your help - Holly

Sorry Holly, didn't realise it was a witness you were looking for. It sounds to me as though what you have is the Register from an RC church, in which case what can be found at the Record Office is going to be the same. The only way you will get additional information is from the original certificate from the GRO.

Don't suppose this is going to help much but in 1881 the family at that address were a James and Mary Bethell with children George, Margaret and Jane E and boarders Christopher and Charlotte Gabray?

and in 1891 it was Thomas and Catherine Wilson

Thanks MaryA, will apply to the GRO for the cert.

1881/1891 residents don't mean anything to me but that doesnt mean they won't in the future as we all know - anything can happen !!!
