Samuel and Caroline with their children Arthur and Alice Louisa are on the 1881 census in Thopre St Andrews. Also with them are Samuel's siblings William 20, Ellen Elizabeth 18 and John 15

Armed with these names the Clarke family can be found in 1871 at riverside Runham

Ellen E 8
Caroline 7
John 5
Harry 3
Emma 2

In 1861 John, Ellen, Samuel, Louisa and William are at Chapel Lane Thorpe

Lousia daughter of John and Ellen Clarke nee Rushmer bn 17 Sep 1858 ch 7 Nov 1858

William bn 1 jan 1861 ch 3 Feb 1861
both on freereg

Aha...and I couldn't find any trace of Ellen BUSHMER! That's what she's transcribed as on a certain nameless (and shall remain so) site! The relief at these finds is fabulous. So frustrating to not even be able to find a suspicion! Over the moon. Thank you all for the fantastic info.

There's a big gap between Samuel and Caroline's son Bertram and the birth of Violet. I have a very suspicious mind do you think she could be Alice Louisa's daughter?

Incidentally Bertram died in 1896

John Clarke married Ellen Rushmer on 17 August 1856 at Thorp St Andrews. His father William Clarke her father Samuel Rushmer. Witnesses Henry Rushmer and Caroline Rushmer.

As for Violet well could be but the ony way to find out is to get her birth certificate and then let us know the answer!!!!
