Birth Cert PROBLEM
Birth Cert PROBLEM
HELP! Im at the end of my tether ............
SOS ! I ordered 2 x Birth certificates & both have returned negative because the father JAMES does not match ).
Fortunately Liverpool do not charge for them .
I'll list my dilemma here: My GGM named Annie Mehan ( according to her wedding certificate AUG 1893 Liverpool ) states that she is 21 ( so you figure that she was born 1872 ) Then on her death cert FWD to 1933 she is 60 . Ok so its only a year .
I have her on the 1901 census with her husband now so Annie Jones aged 28 so again 1873 springs to mind
1911 she is 36!! so 1875 now .
I have all the census information from 1901 & 1911 & baptsist records of her children where the recorder has her maiden name as MAHAN , MEEHAN ,MEHAN .
Problem I have is I cant seem to trace her Birth Cert as the ones I ordered are for 1873 ( anne Mahan & Mary Eleanor Meehan- wildcard) , the library in Liverpool is now closed & I now dont know where to turn except write to Jim'll fix it or ask them to cast me in the next episode of Doctor Who so I can go back & actually ask her ! Does anyone have any ideas ?

Do you have the lady in any census prior to 1901? If so please post the details.
I think you have posted about her before. Perhaps you could link your posts together. This would save members going over things that have been found/said before.
I think you need to track this lady backwards to see if you can find out more about her. This in the end may lead to a clearer picture as to her birth. The surname is difficult as it can have many spellings.
Family history is full of frustrations and often it takes years to sort out the family correctly.

Re: Birth Cert PROBLEM
Have you ever thought that whoever registered the death may not have known here exact birthdate. An entry given on a death certificate cannot be taken as absolute fact since the person who might be expected to know best is deceased. Also a year out in a birth date - even if accurate - might be explained by the death having taken place before or after a birthday.taj1 wrote:Then on her death cert FWD to 1933 she is 60 . Mehan/Meehan/Mahon sounds quite an Irish name, can you be positive that she was born in Liverpool?
Katie requested the details on the marriage certificate. You have given witnesses only, who did she marry? where did they marry and when? what were their addresses and occupations and father's occupations?Katie wrote:Can you post details on marriage certificate ie Witnesses.
Our Education Officer has requested that you link your previous post to this, our crew do their best but it's not fair not to let them in on previous research. Can you please post a link to your earlier message about this.

Hi Mary
Husband Thomas Arthur Jones regd death .Yes it is possible that he might have only assumed that she was 60. Although wouldnt he had to submit the ages at census time ?
My Dads cousin informed me that the Mehans were from carlo ( although this is passed down so cant be confirmed ) & Annies family moved to Liverpol in 1870 .She was the last of 11 children & the only one to born in Liverpool .....so I am told ,not confirmed .
On the marriage certificate : details are : 20th AUG 1893 St Nicholas church
Thomas Arthur Jones aged 22:Bachelor OCC : Labourer :6th court 5H Denison st
His witness Thomas Hampton
Father Robert Jones : Fireman
Annie Mehan :aged 21 Spinister : same address as above
Father James Mehan ( Labourere ) Deceased
Her witness Catharine Logan
How do I post this to a previous links / request ?

Go to your other post, highlight the address line - ie http: etc. and copy it (hold down Ctrl key and hit C).
Come back here, reply to the post and paste the address (Ctrl key and V).
If this proves difficult, give us the name of your other post, and date and which board it was on and we'll sort it out.

This is a long shot but this is what I have found
1881 Census 7 Shaws Alley
James Meehan Head Mar 48yrs Dock Labourer born Ireland
Ann Meehan Wife Mary 46yrs b L,pool
Margaret Meehan Daug 20yrs b. Ireland
Bridget Meehan Daug 18 yrs b. Ireland
Mary Ann Meehan Dau 11 yrs b. L'Pool
Ellen Meehan Dau 8yrs b L,Pool
Henry Hagan Stepson 20yrs Tobacconist shopman b. L,Pool
"i THINK WE CAN RULE THE ABOVE OUT FOR NOW"
In 1886 a Margaret Meehan married a William McEvoy at Holy Cross. You need to check this marriage to see what Margarets father is called. Also look for baptisms for McEvoys at Holy Cross making a note of the godparents.

Hi Everyone
Like Katie Suggested I ordered the Baptist Records & the wedding cert
of Margaret Meehan & William Mcevoy.
Here are the details :
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
16th July 1886
Were married WILLIAM McEVOY of 15ct MARLROUGH ST
Son of WILLIAM & ELLEN McEVOY
And MARGARET MEEHAN of 15ct MARLROUGH ST
Daughter of PATRICK & CATHERINE MEEHAN
Witnesses PRICE HUGHES of 84 PARK ST
CATHERINE HOGAN of 24 RICHMOND ROW
Unfortunately Annie is not on the Godparents for the children
The significant detail here is, I have a Birth cert for Annies 1st child at 14 Marlborough st 1894 & Catherine Logan is on Annie Wedding cert . It could be Hogan ??
Margarets Father is Patrick not James but I really think Im looking at my GGM's family here . Katie mentioned that there is a family at 42 Adlington street with Annie as Margarets sister in 1891 : with Thomas & Catherine ( Margarets Children )
Im sure Im looking at the same family here. Any thoughts, more suggestions?

do you think that this could be related , You listed

Catherine McEvoy-Daug S 1yr -b L,Pool

Now as I stated Im convinced that this is them .On the LDS site I found this. Is anne Gallagher their Aunty ? If I ordered your suggested birth cert : September quarter 1873 Annie Mahan Liverpool 8b 55 should I list the Fathers name on what information I have ( Patrick ? )
Husband Patrick Meehan
Birth: About 1820 , , Ireland
Marriage: About 1845 , , Ireland
Wife Catherine Gallagher
Birth: About 1824 , , Ireland
Marriage: About 1845 , , Ireland

Seemingly you have the marriage information from the IGI. This is a "User Submitted" entry and should not be accepted as fact until you obtain the record and confirm it for yourself.
The entry states that No Source information is available so you would need to discover which Parish Register this information came from - if it did. Entries given as "about ... date" usually appear to be little more than a guess as maybe the names of the people concerned.
