Liverpool Records Office Query

Post by BarrattFamily »

Hi,

I have looked through the old posts regarding Liverpool Records Office closure but wonder if I could enquire about it again.

Is it right that it is still open but has temporarily relocated? If so, where is it actually located now?

I am visiting Liverpool in July and want to go to the records office but will have very limited time. I am going to sneak away from my travelling companions for a day and will have to make very good use of my time.

The particular records I will need to search are the electoral rolls. Would this be something I would have to book ahead of my visit so I can access them?

Does anyone have suggestions of how I could best plan my day there? Are there any hints or tips? Is there any days that are better than others to visit?

Sorry for all of the questions but I thought if I go in with a plan of attack I will not be wasting my time. I have visited similar places in Australia and sometimes I spend half a day just getting my bearings and working out the process. Also are the staff there very helpful?

Record Office Closure

Post by Katie »

A poster was put up yesterday 15th June 2010 which says that they are closing at the end of June 2010, and are hoping to have a reduced service up and running by the middle of July (the people in the know dont think this will be the case). The microfilms are going to be relocated in the World Museum next door to the Central Library. If you look at the topic Liverpool Library Closure there is a leaflet explaining where the temporary services are going to be located.

Electoral Rolls

Electoral Roll from 1837 - 1899 are on microfilm
1900 -1918 original ( no electoral rolls exist for 1914-1918)
1919 - 1939/40 on microfilm.

Katie & Mary.

That's great. I'll give the World Museum a try when I'm there in July and hopefully they will have the microfilms I'm after by then.

Thanks for replying.
