Liverpool Maritime Museum
Liverpool Maritime Museum
I have received the marriage certificate for John Daniels & Hannah Hughes, 1838. Father is recorded as William Daniels, Pilot. I have searched the 1841 and the only William Daniels with that profession was aged 45 with wife Jane 30, so she was much too young to be the mother of John. I went into the Maritime Museum site and they do have a lot of information on Pilots but unfortunately they do not do research. I have no idea what amount of research would be needed to find William but if anyone should want to volunteer, here are the details. File MDHB/MP/14/1-11, Pilots character books, 1788 - 1974. Register of Pilots children 1814-1905. Register of deceased Pilots children & widows. The museum is at Albert Dock. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Moya
1841 William the Pilot
Hiya Moya
Tox Park 1841
Jane may be his 2nd wife? 15 yr age gap, could be narrowed to 10 the way census was rounded off.
There's another William who is listed as 37, his age is 17 apprentice ships smith, Wm snr's son by 1st marriage?
Thomas 10 then a gap to Mary 4 & Richd 1.
Edit
Baptism Mary 1835 St Peter's mother Jane no maiden and another Mary in 1837. There's also a Thomas in 1837 just baptism date no birth yr,mother Jane.
Something to think about?
Good luck with Maritime look ups.

Might I suggest that you look on www.rootschat.com where a lady called Celia was doing a lot of look ups for Liverpool Pilots some time ago, I don't know if her offer is still available or not.

Thankyou MaryAnn & Tina for your invaluable help. Managed to track down William Daniels once Tina had pointed out that he was 17 on the 1841 and not 37. Also contacted RootsChat and a lady there said there were 4 Daniel Baptisms on Lancs OPC, all with father listed as Pilot mother Maria Hughes. She died in 1825 and William senior married again, managed to find a further two children on OPC, father Pilot, the rest on LDS so at least I'm on the right track. Can't find any record of a marriage for William and Jane ?? (from Dover) though. Regards Moya
The only way to discover Jane's name and so find the marriage is by means of the birth certificate of one of the children.
Looking closely at the 1851 census "Emma S" could easily be "Emma J" and if so I would imagine that this is her birth
Emma Judith Daniel Q1 1850 West Derby 20 969
Susannah Daniels Q4 1844 West Derby 20 901
As the GRO no longer provide the checking service I would suggest that you write to the Liverpool Register Office, enclosing your cheque - now £9 - and a stamped, addressed envelope would also be welcome, and advise that you would like the certificate IF the parents names are William and Jane.
Read also on the Liverpool City Council, Family History page that there is the availability of a form to download to order with a debit/credit card.

Hi Moya
Off topic....
Went to Freo today, lovely weather, great pizza & coffee on the "strip", markets good, reduced size of fruit & veg area, lots more food, cakes, bakeries etc.
Had a request for a grave look up in Freo Cem. Took photos, lister will be very sad as little girl in there who wasn't mentioned. I got all teary.
I'm a vollie with RAOGK worldwide group (Random Acts etc...)
Good to see you on track with tree, your thanks are very welcome.
There is a marriage for a Wm Daniels to Jane Davies at St Annes
22/8/1831. I'm listing this as it states the grooms marital status as unknown, Jane is single. Perhaps this Wm was a widower?
Sorry no more info.
This is from the Mormon laabs site.
Cheers
Tina

Actually there seems to me to be more going for the Liverpool Register Office than the GRO now they have stopped their reference checking facility. I believe Liverpool will probably be more sympathetic towards an application with the parents names given.
